[Locked] - All linked charts do not replay with main chart

I use a renko chart as my main trading chart.
I have an overly study indicator on it from a 5 min chart

The two charts have the same link number.
However when using Chart replay on the main chart, the 5 min chart does not progress and shows as paused.
They used to work together.
I have installed several sierra version updates (currently using version 1611).
I'm not sure which version it was that broke this feature.

I cannot do an accurate replay or back test without the linked charts working together.

There is definitely nothing wrong with Sierra Chart in regards to this. Or at least not that we can reproduce.

Therefore, the only conclusion is those charts do not have the same link number or one of them is in a different Chartbook. They must be within the same Chartbook. You may have used the Window Always Visible command on one of them:

Both charts have the same link number of 2 and neither chart has the Window Always Visible option checked.Both charts are in the same chartbook. The two charts are used as part of an auto trade with spreadsheet.


I will just save a copy of the Sierra Charts folder and then start reverting back versions until the charts start back working together again.

We looked at the code and we are fairly sure there is not a problem. Or there is some certain scenario with what you are doing that is just not handled right but we really do not see what could go wrong.

What we did find though is that you must have one of the charts active when starting the replay, that has the same Link Number of the charts that you want to replay.

Actually we noticed that one of the charts has a replay speed of 0. Not sure how that condition developed. This must be the cause of the problem. It is not what we were originally thinking. We recommend stopping the replay completely on all charts and starting it over again with a nonzero replay speed.

I had the replay speed set low, cause the 5min chart did not move and indicators values did not keep up with the Flex-Renko chart.I had tried to slow it down, thinking the 5min chart needed time to catch up.

However, now that I have placed the charts so I can view them both at the same time on replay.
Not only is the 5min chart pausing and slower then the Flex-Renko chart, the current price on the 5min chart don't even match up either.

You are setting different replay speeds on these charts. We are not sure how you are doing that. In any case, there is no synchronization whatsoever in that case. This is not something we can help with.

I am selecting the main chart,scroll the chart back to where I want the replay to start.
I then open the replay console on the main chart.

Make sure that the charts to replay are "Charts with same Link Number".
Select "Standard Replay" and set the speed then click Play.

I have no idea how to set different speeds on each chart or if that was even possible.

If you have no idea how different chart speeds are being set.
Then that sounds like a critical bug in the charting software if that ability is not supposed to be there.

I also uncheck "Skip Empty Periods" and the current price mismatch creep between the two chart is still there.

We tested this Chartbook and started a replay on chart #2 when using Charts with Same Link Number. Chart #1 replayed as well at the same speed. They are completely synchronized with each other.

The two chart may start out synchronized .
But over time the current price goes out of sync.

Chart 1 is the trading chart and chart #2 is the one that lags behind over time.
Scroll chart 1 back four days or more and then start the replay at a speed of 10 or above, let it run about 10 mins or more.

Chart #2 price will not match up with Chart #1 by then
If Chart#2 current price is not synchronized with Chart #1, All trades will be inaccurate or not placed at all.

The two charts remain in perfect synchronization after replying them for 20 minutes at 60 times.

Skip Empty Periods is disabled in our test.

Something is not right with what you are showing in those screenshots originally and we have never seen a scenario where the replay speeds are different based upon what you describe. It just simply cannot happen.

OK we see two issues. First, the speed formatting in the control should be limited to two places and we will make sure that is always done.

The other problem is when you change the speed, the speed is only being changed on one chart and not all of the charts. We will solve that.

We have released 1614 which resolves this.

However, in the case of the Flex Renko chart you are using, there is a particular study which is customizing the name that you see at the top left of the chart and that speed displayed does not update as you change the speed but the speed is correct in the chart.

Ok..
I am not a happy person right now.

I installed version 1614 and when I restarted SC, none of my charts or spreadsheets appear in the chart book anymore.
All my weeks of hard work poof, gone.

How do I get all my work back?

I was able to get my chartbook back with all my charts and spreadsheets.
Its missing some changes I had made to the spreadsheets and studies, but, its better then trying to start over from nothing.

Check the size of the Chartbook file.

Sounds like there was some error on your side with saving it. But there are backups of your Chartbooks and spreadsheets as you have used.

There is no problem with the new version with reading existing Chartbooks. We tested that and there were no problems and there are no changes that would cause a problem either.

I ran a replay and the two charts still can get out of sync 2 to 3 ticks at some points and then sync back up again.

Its not perfect, but its better then before.
Where as the current price difference kept increasing as the replay ran.

Bad news. The two charts still have the current price sync issue.

The issue seems to be made worse when the "Jump method" is use to move ahead one bar at a time.

I use the Jump method to quickly get to the bar that I want to test the spreadsheet cell formula accuracy while keep the replay speed at 1.00.

The current price on the two charts go way out of sync and don't sync back up.
Slowing the speed down or speeding it up does not bring the two charts back in sync.
