Orders not submitted to IB

Hi,

I upgraded from version 969 to 997 two days ago and since then I have noticed that my orders were not being submitted to IB. I'm not in simulated mode. I cancel the order and nothing happens. I click on the "X" on trade chart mode and the position will change to Pending Cancel and it takes a long time for it to disappear. I have to close Sierrachart and load it again before orders get sent to IB. I have missed some trades because of this issue the last two days. I never had this problem in version 969.

There has never been any known case where when you are not in Trade Simulation Mode, that the order does not get submitted to the external trading service. That definitely cannot be what is happening.

When you submit the order do you see any error message in Trade >> Trade Service Log?

With what you are describing this sounds like an issue on the TWS side.

I didn't know what to do so I had to close Sierrachart then run it again. I opened Sierrachart now and there's nothing on the Trade Service Log. How do I get to the older trade service logs to check if there was any?

It is not persistent. You have to try submitting another order.

We are working on upgrading the communications protocol to Interactive Brokers TWS. As we were doing that, we encountered a problem like this and it is resolved. It apparently has to do with the newer TWS version. We are going to have a new version out later today. We want you to test that. Nothing further to do until then.

What version is this so I can test it? Is this the pre-release version 1001?

It's not out yet. We are hoping to get it out in about a couple of hours. We are finishing up with some things now with it.

Ok. Please advise me when it's out so I could install and test it before the US market opens. Thanks.

Version 1002 is now being released. Please wait about 5 minutes before updating.

Please update by selecting Help >> Download Prerelease.

We have done some basic testing with Interactive Brokers but the testing is not extensive. There were a lot of changes in the interface.

One thing to be aware of is this requires the very latest version of Trader Workstation, otherwise it will not connect to TWS.

I encountered similar problems many times for ES and oil futures. Fortunately, it only happened, when I used the paper-trading account of Interactive Brokers, not the LIVE account.

Where can I get the latest version of IB TWS? When I check to update TWS to latest version, I get the message that I have the latest version.

The log of Sierrachart says I need TWS server version 68.

Go to this page:
https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=674

Near the bottom you will see 3 boxes for 3 different downloads. Choose the large middle one. At the time of this post the TWS version is 9392.

Ok thanks. That worked. Hopefully the issue of order not being sent to IB is gone with this version. I'll give you feedback later.

It happened again. My buy order did not get submitted. I had to close Sierrachart and load it again. After loading, I tried submitting the order and this time it got submitted to IB.

Will await further instruction.

Does the problem occur intermittently? So you submit an order and the status of the order in Sierra Chart is "Order Sent"?

Probably Interactive Brokers technical support will need to review your TWS log file to see what the problem is.

Also, there is no need to restart Sierra Chart. What you can do instead is select File >> Disconnect and then File >> Connect to Data Feed to reestablish the connection to TWS.

We recommend contacting Interactive Brokers about this problem:
api@interactivebrokers.com

They will need to get your TWS log file. They can provide you instructions to provide that.

I'm not really sure how I can go about contacting Interactive Brokers about this problem. I believe it should be between Sierrachart and IB. Even if they respond, I might not even understand the technical matters. This issue arose when I updated IB from version 969 to 997.

We understand. The problem is that it is intermittent, it is not something we can reproduce, we do not have access to your TWS log files and do not fully understand them anyway, we only have 2 users reporting this out of many Interactive brokers users. Also we have little idea what would've changed that would cause a problem. If there was something we did which would cause a problem, around the time of that particular change we would have many people reporting it. We never did.

However, we are going to try a couple of changes to see if it will help.

One thing we can clearly see is that recently there has been some changes to TWS with the getting of position data which is causing some problems. This has been an issue for some users.

We have just now released some changes. Please update by selecting Help >> Download Prerelease.

We apologize for all of these updates. However, being we cannot see the problem, we just have to make some guesses as to what the problem is. Although we could try to look at your TWS log file if you still have a problem.

That will be located usually in the/JTS folder on your system. Example name: log.Thu.txt. When you have a problem we will need to see the log file for the particular day of week this problem occurred on. You can send it to support_ AT_Sierra Chart.com.

The TWS logs are rather long and complicated. We need to have it sent immediately to us at the time the problem occurred otherwise will be very hard for us to make sense out of it.

Thank you for your patience. I have updated to the latest Sierrachart pre-release version 1003. If I encounter the problem again. I will immediately send the TWS log file so you may see it.

I upgraded to version 1004 and the connection status at the upper right shows "Reading data..." in red even if I connected to IB. It is confusing. Users might think they are still not connected to IB. I have charts automatically load at startup and I think that has something to do with the bug.
