Hi,
Some chartbooks hang when I attempt to open them. Is there a way to figure out why? They worked earlier today. Others open without a problem.
Thanks.

In task manager all sierrachart windows are listed as "not responding" and under "processes" it the amount of memory it is using is not changing.

BTW, the computer memory usage is at 15% - 25% during this time so it is not an issue like this:http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails30.html#h30.16
(And all other programs are working fine at the time this is happening).
Thanks.

There are various potential causes and all of them are documented here:

Specifically refer to:

As well as the other sub sections on that page.

We also see you are running an older version. You really need update following these instructions:

It does not appear as though you read my post above yours. You directed me to the very section I said probably does not apply to this problem. I read all of those subsections prior to posing the question. The cpu usage is very low while this is happening and there is plenty of memory available. Wouldn't those two situations indicate that the problem lies elsewhere?
Thanks.

No, we did not see that post. We were answering about the same time you made that.

You also make reference to memory usage and not CPU usage. You also need understand that with a multicore CPU, even a fraction of the usage can cause Sierra Chart to be in a frozen state. So that help topic is still 100 percent applicable.

Okay. I guess I can try to trim down the chartbook and load less data and perhaps remove some unneeded studies on various pages by modifying a recent backup. If I hide a study is sierrachart still calculating it or is it as if the study is not loaded on the page?

The chartbook in question has worked fine for a long time but I do keep adding to it. This morning I copied an older version of the offending chartbook to the data folder and used that instead and added some pages to it. It worked fine all day but this evening when I opened it sierrachart stopped responding. I suppose it could be just on the borderline in terms of what it is asking of sierrachart but I am a bit confused as to why it would work this afternoon and when I try to open it up again tonight it freezes. Nothing has been added since it was last open and working.
Thanks.

Updating Sierra Chart will help if the problem is related to volume at price data processing.

Even when a study is hidden it will still be calculated.

I suppose it could be just on the borderline in terms of what it is asking of sierrachart

What you really mean is on the borderline of what your system can handle. Sierra Chart is just a program. It is your hardware which delivers the performance capabilities.
