I am trying to understand why the data is being displayed as time when the setting is set to a range bar.

Make sure Sierra Chart is set for a tick by tick data configuration:
Tick by Tick Data Configuration

And re-download the data for the particular contract months you are looking at by following the instructions here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/ContinuousFuturesContractCharts.html#ReDownloading

Also make sure you understand this:

I have taken note, checked and acted according to your information, but I have the same result.

Also during my backtesting I have noticed at various times missing data. Most notable is the time for the contract period GC-201106-nymex. Data is missing on 21.04.2011 from 00:08:08 to 08:32:57. This is substantial especially in regards to the opening of the European session.

Refer to this page for further help with this:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails47.html

Further help with this will be a chargeable support request at the usual rate of 50 USD per hour.

Before you claim missing data, contact the exchange to find out if there was trading at those times. This is fully your responsibility to understand when there is and is not trading. This is not our responsibility and the missing data is simply because there was no trading at that time.

understand.

Does your answer concerning data also regard those who have the real-time data subscription from sc?

We need to make a correction. The data that we thought was missing because there was no trading was based on a logical conclusion but we realize that is incorrect. One of the sources we use for data was actually missing the data for the specified time. That will be filled in later today.

The missing data for the June 2011 gold contract has been corrected. Follow the instructions here to re-download the missing data for that particular contract month:

We really do not understand this. This is very vague from our perspective. You need to make reference to one specific bar by Date-time and time zone and explain the issue with it, and why you expect it to appear a certain way.

For help with Range Bar issues, refer to this help topic:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails47.html

It is very comprehensive and explains all possibilities. The quotation for an extra cost for this support request is if we have to do a detailed analysis for you which is not included in our standard support.

I certainly appreciate the supplemented data, but I believe it is time-based and not tick-based. I have provided a screenshot showing the data supplemented and its display in comparison to the range bar with a setting of 3. Clearly one can see left of the left green vertical line, the range bars are correctly displayed as well as to the right of the right vertical green line. see attachment

The other situation to which I refer seems to be the same problem: the data is time-based and not tick-based. It ranges for the whole contract period GC-201104

In closing: it is a small portion and therefore irrelevant considering the amount of empirical data available to test. I can just skip over these periods, but at least I have the time-based data to ensure completeness.

thx as always!

The inserted missing data is in 1 Minute Units.

However, there is a solution to this and it is documented here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=helpdetails47.html

You need to enable the option to split data records.

We provided that link two times before in this thread and it did say in the first section, to enable the Split Data Records option.

please excuse. I must have overlooked it while I was trying to do too many things at once.

PS I also think I was more fixated with the settings examples
