Currently running version 1406. Tried to update to current PreRelease version.
The installer seems to have a problem to create a file/folder on my system.

Never had an issue like this before. I have not changed anything on my system.

We tested this identical folder and we do not see a problem.

Also, our documentation states that the use of the Program Files folder is for advanced users.

You are using that folder at your own risk and responsibility. And we will not support it. In our experience, Sierra Chart is not going to function properly in that folder.

Make sure the Windows account you are using is an administrator account when installing Sierra Chart.

I'm seeing myself as an advanced user.
I'm using SC since years. I've always had SC installed in the Program Files folder and have never had any problems.
I'm running SC in an administrator account on a Windows 7 PC.

Here's what I found out:

I do have several instances installed in this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\_tb\trade\sc

The folder names for the indivudual instances are:
...\sc\SC
...\sc\SC_AMP
...\sc\SC_FX
...\sc\SC_TELE

Updating to the current Prerelease version did work with the "SC" folder/instance. It doesn't work the the "SC_..." folders. So maybe the issue that has come up with the new installer is the "_"?! Please do have another look, as my whole system is based on the described structure.

We tested installing into the ..\sc\SC_TELE folder and there was not a problem and we do not see any reason why a _ would cause a problem.

We cannot spend further time on this unless other users have a problem.

VERY strange behaviour here since the new installer has been implemented

Ok, what do you recommend to install more than one instance? How should the folders be named and where should they be stored?

We would not expect the problem to occur outside of the Program Files folder. So move Sierra Chart outside of that folder.

The root folder should be drive:\SierraChart. You can then install multiple instances in that folder.

After moving the folder be sure to update the Data Files Folder in Global Settings >> General Settings.

We think we have worked around this issue.

In any case, for the time being we have reverted back to the prior installer so you can update without any problem now.

We want to wait until we get some further improvements out with the new installer.

Ok, thank you.

I've now changed my system to your recommended folder structure.
