Silver Futures Symbol Change at Interactive Brokers effective TODAY (07/10/2013)

Hi, I spoke with IB support a little while ago because my Silver futures chart is not working in SierraChart as of last night. Symbol has always been SI for the 5000 ounce contract, but now they support 5000 ounce and 1000 ounce. For September 2013, they tell me the symbols they use are SIU3 (5000 ounce, and this is what it always was) and SILU3 (1000 ounce). I have been using SI-201309-NYMEX, and this is now rejected as "Symbol is unknown". Of course, IB said to contact you about this issue. Thanks in advance ... |

It looks to me as if my message was unclear in one respect: I cannot chart the 5000 ounce contract or the 1000 ounce contract using IB intraday data as of today, so I need some advice as to how to handle this situation. Thanks

SIU3-FUT-NYMEX works for the intraday charts, but my daily chart that is linked only shows 1 bar on the left. When I remove the link and enter the symbol independently for the daily chart, I get the selection SIU3 and the alternate SI-201309-NYMEX appears automatically and the chart populates. Unfortunately it does not update in real time after the last bar is drawn. Is there a solution to this? For other futures like GC, HG etc I just link the daily and intraday charts by symbol and changing the symbol on any intraday chart automatically changes the daily chart, which updates in real time thereafter. Problem only since the IB change with SI. |

I think I can help you with this. On my daily, I now use SIU3 and put in SIU3-FUT-NYMEX-USD for the "Alternate Real-Time Update Symbol" and that updates properly. (Using SI-201309-NYMEX-USD as the alternate didn't update properly, but I am OK since I do not trade from the chart --- this may still be an issue for those who do trade from the chart if I understand the post from the yesterday from the Sierra engineer.) |
