I would like to somehow create an alert which identifies a combination of candlesticks at a certain time point. The time points would be multiple in the arena of maybe 780. Additionally it would be great if there is a possibility to quickly switch particular current charts to the time frame alerted by the spreadsheet. All possible?

Since this is marked User Discussion, I'll respond.

It is not clear to me what you want to do. Please explain further.

I want to search for different combinations of candlesticks with different time settings. Eg. hammer candlestick with a certain type of candlestick prior and then @ different time intervals 00:00, 00:01, 00:02 and so forth. The candlestick combinations have specific parameters and are tick-based and thus at different time intervals give different representations. What might look like a hammer at 00:00 can look like a bullish engulfing candlestick at 00:01. I have a preference for certain candlesticks and combinations thereof. Regarding the switching of the chart settings is important due to time. It requires too much time to change the settings if the market is moving fast and thus lost opportunity.

You would need to have a chart open for each bar period, with the same-named spreadsheet study on each.
The fastest way to access the chart is to use MDI Window tabs.
So it seems to me it is all possible.

thx tomgilb. The solution sounds though like a lot of charts which also means a lot of memory! You have to imagine 18 different trade vehicles times the amount of charts. I think I will have to find an easier way.

sc or anybody, instead of each chart having its own spreadsheet, is it possible to have one spreadsheet for all charts?

Using the same-named spreadsheet on all charts will give each chart its own sheet in the same spreadsheet, so there is only one spreadsheet file, with a sheet for each chart.

I had hoped I could have multiple chart information on just one spreadsheet without all the charts. It would be like having a quote page with the same symbol, but different time parameters for each and able to create an alert based on the attributes of the candlestick combination

How would it be possible to build candlesticks without drawing them on a chart? Their construction begins and ends based on the bar period. A quote sheet has no bar period, no timeframes; it is only the most current price.

How many symbols do you want to monitor? How many charts total would you need? How many days to load (of data) would each require?

I only need the ohlc and volume in three lines of data for each different time base to study 2- and 3-bar combinations. The graphics are unimportant. The quote sheet was only an example of a possible structure and the only one I thought of as an example. If it is confusing, then please excuse. I am certainly grateful for anybodys help. Please also understand, I have only a limited understanding of the possibilities of the functionality of sierra charts spreadsheets and at the moment I understand there is only one way to get the type of data I need which is by having a spreadsheet from each individual chart which has a different time base. This though results in consuming too much memory from the program itself. I need the spreadsheet to allow me to change the base time like in the chart settings as well as the symbol. It is sort of like a quote sheet which you input the symbol and get the last quote, but in this case I am calling up the last two lines of database data as well as the current. Eg. see below. I used the same numbers for ease of purpose, but what is important is the structure and time bases.

I monitor 23 possible trading vehicles. I would need as many charts as I would like to have different time bases. Certainly I would keep the days to load down to a minimum such as 5 for an example and depending on the chart itself.

It's not possible to get previous OHLCV data unless a chart is open.

A spreadsheet study's spreadsheet sheet shows the current OHLCVT data in row 3, and previous bars' data in rows below.
Each chart uses its own sheet.
You can add a sheet to the spreadsheet that is not associated with a chart where data from other sheets could be combined onto a single sheet.

There have recently been significant performance improvements made to the New Spreadsheets, so with 23 charts each with a spreadsheet study, it might be possible to do what you want. But there are many details that need to be known to determine if this can be done, and in a way that you can use.

thx tomgilb. At the moment I am taking the opportunity to understand the software better and make the most out of it. Currently I am backtesting and analyzing the results. I understand you charge for a service and if I need, I will contact you.
