Hello, I have just started a free trial yesterday, mainly for Market Profile and FootPrint charts. I did manage to find my way through in creating charts or using studies. However, I am a little lost as far as downloading historical intraday data for symbols from IQFeed. The footprint needs bid/ask/volume on a tick-by-tick basis (120 days in IQFEED), while I also need a 1 minute history (5-10 years in IQFEED) for market profile analysis on 30 minutes, daily and weekly buckets. I want to download historical tick-by-tick and 1 minute history. I used the chart and data settings and adjusted the number of intaday days to download the historical 1 minute and tick data. I tried the download in non-trading hours. I also tried "delete and download data" . I could only download the daily data. The SC did not download any historical tick and 1 minute data for any instrument. Please also advise if it is possible to import the IQFEED symbol list (which is missing for Forex) and steps to download all historical (tick, 1 minute and daily) for a specified set of symbol lists. So basically what you are saying is that your Intraday charts are blank? We see no reason why there would be such a problem. We have not heard of this with IQ Feed. What is the symbol of one of the charts? Do you see a message that says "Downloading Historical Data" on an Intraday chart that you open? A few strange behaviour related to IQFEED, which is unusual. Please note that I do no have a Level II subscription as I do not needit for my trading. Massive gap in the chart, where intraday is loaded or just a few bars starting yesterday. We have implemented a patch for this in the latest release. Please update by selecting Help >> Download Prerelease. The reason it occurs is because the IQ Feed software is sending it continuously. The problem is not from Sierra Chart.We do not know why IQ Feed cannot promptly resolve this. They should be able to take care of this promptly. Thanks. I will update this patch. As a partner in service, perhaps, you may want to send your recommendation to IQFeed to fix this continuous warning. BTW, IQFeed states that Historical intraday backfill is internal to SC and not IQFeed. They see a clean account status on their side. |

We have told them. They plan to correct it, but we do not know why it takes such a long time for a simple change to be released. The historical Intraday data is downloaded from IQ Feed. Re-download the data again by selecting Edit >> Delete All Data And Download. Or right-click on the chart before the missing data and select Delete Data and Download. If it is still missing, it is clearly an issue on IQ Feed side. I keep getting blank data or gaps in the data. BTW, when I click back-fill or download historical daily or intraday 1 minute or 120 days of tick history in AmiBroker or Ninja Trader, the data sets are downloaded completely without any problem. Strangely, the problem seems specific to SC. If other applications could download the data without a problem, why should that be problematic in SC? If I want to download the full suite of tick (120 days) and 1 minute data, how does one accomplish that together please? Thanks |

There could not be any problems in Sierra Chart with data downloading. The problem must be external. We do not have any other reports of this and we are not noticing a problem ourselves. I have managed to get the data for some instruments. I will continue with the rest before I start evaluating. The critical question is this: I want to download both the historical tick data for 120 days and all available intraday day, which is a 1 minute history. What should be the setting on Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings...Should the download historical intraday data as be in ticks or minutes ? I think it should be both ticks and minutes as one would want both of them. The ticks are for footprints and the minutes for everything else. Perhaps, this needs to be looked into closely.... Thank you for the reply. I have downloaded G10 majors and crosses data. My first observation of the backfill is apparent missing data mostly in 2013...Almost all G10 Major pairs ran into blank screen from Jan to early May...Interestingly, this is the period where back-fill history is available for both 1 minute and tick. I wonder if there is a hidden conflict when it attempts to download both of them. I know the SC would say there is no problem. This is not a criticism but I think it is worth investigating the source code of the SC a little bit where the minutes and ticks are handled and sorted. This is an example of a cross FX image. We opened a new chart for the same symbol as the image that you posted. And there were no problems receiving and processing both the Tick and Minute data: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?l=136912842158.png Quite honestly, we are puzzled by the problem that you have. There is no one else reporting anything like this. Sierra Chart works fine when it comes to processing this data. We know that. There is some other problem going on in your case. Thanks. I am aware of your Edit >> Del instructions..I have done that a few dozen times in the last couple of days...I using this method for almost all IQFeed instruments. I do not see any point in supplying you the full list. You may check out IQFEED FX (.abba, .fxcm, .comp) as starters. Please note that I never experienced this massive data download problem with any other software, Ninja Trader, Amibroker to name a few. Download has been pretty smooth with the IQFeed interface every where except SC. While your support is excellent, I am sorry that your response to download related issues does not surprise me at all. Every instrument fails the download a few times before it becomes alright...I am at it for more than 48 hours and still unable to download a full history of even a couple of dozen instruments, let alone a few hundred instruments. Probably I need to spend the entire free trial period day and night in trying to download a couple of dozen instruments. It is a luxury, which I cannot afford as I have trade and make a living! It will be a real shame if I give this up without even testing out the SC features. The attached is just one example. Why are you not providing the Message Log and are being critical.? How do you expect us to help you, if you do not provide us the Message Log which will to help us diagnose the problem. We can see from the image, the download is failing and the Message Log will indicate why. The download failure is not due to Sierra Chart, but some other reason. There is no reason for not providing the log. I am sorry you take my comments as critical but they are not! If you wish, you may disable my free trial and delete the account. Please do let me now if you take this route. Thanks I have exceptions added in AV/Malware, while native FW on win7 64 bit permits outbound connection for all internet facing applications. This setup functions well for all charting systems since 2008. While one of them may be disabled briefly for a few minutes for troubleshooting, please note that I will not be able to disable them permanently. Please look at this log for CHFJPY.ABBA....It received the missing data from 26-2-13 to 21-5-13 for 84.2 days and then tick data for 6.7 days from 26-2-13 to 4-3-13 for 6.7 days...but does not plot the data for these period on the chart....this log is produced when the SC was started but the chart was not opened...the chart was opened after the log was captured...
