On 2026-10-02 at 04:42:53 ET, the Denali Data Feed connection dropped. The log shows DTC socket error 10054, then "no activity on the network socket for 19m 16s". The reconnect attempt failed with "10051: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network", followed by "Data feed disconnected. Will reconnect in 3 seconds". After that, the Message Log shows no further reconnect attempts or reconnections for the rest of the day. The feed stayed down through the whole US session, and no real-time data reached my charts. During that time the IB trade service reconnected at 04:45, 08:15 and 17:06 ET. Every historical download it triggered reported "Historical data for X is delayed because connection to main data feed is not present". Related: on 2026-10-01 between 00:35 and 00:36 ET, Denali failed to reconnect 39 times ("unable to resolve domain name", then "unreachable host"). It did recover on that occasion. My suspect is internet dropped at that time. IB reconnected after internet came back, but Denali didn't, and never made another reconnect attempt 04:42:56: the reconnect failed with "unreachable network", meaning my PC had no route to the internet at that moment. 04:45:29: IB came back with "connectivity restored", so IB lost its connection to IBKR's servers in the same window. This is due to an Internet connectivity issue and name resolution problem, somewhere on your side or somewhere on the Internet. Not from the Sierra Chart side. You should never have had this problem: After that, the Message Log shows no further reconnect attempts or reconnections for the rest of the day. The feed stayed down through the whole US session, and no real-time data reached my charts.
We need to see the Message Log showing this: Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases) So we can understand the problem and implement a solution if there is something wrong on the Sierra Chart side. Maybe some scenario occurring that we did not consider. The problem really begins here: 2026-10-02 04:42:53.689 | Denali Data Feed | There has been no activity on the network socket for 19m 16s. Will reconnect.
There should not have been this long of a time to detect no network socket activity. It should be more like about 40 to 80 seconds maximum. So there is a problem of timer events. This is why the reconnect never happened. We need to think about what could have gone wrong. But it must be relating to timer events. What version of Sierra Chart are you running? We are not sure of why this happened. We are going to add additional logging so next time if it happens which we hope it would not, we will have a better idea about it. The only conclusion that we can come to that would seem reasonable is the following windows API call was not functioning correctly on your system: ::LARGE_INTEGER PerformanceCount = {};
::QueryPerformanceCounter(&PerformanceCount); return PerformanceCount.QuadPart; However, we will not know until we add more logging. Or the thread that generates timer events, was not running. But this would be a system-level issue. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point. You made me think that maybe my PC went to sleep or standby. I checked the event logs, and that is exactly what happened. "Modern Standby" times align with the message log entries. I am travelling, trading from a laptop. The machine trades overnight unattended (US daytime). It was plugged in, but went to sleep anyway. Maybe a battery issue, despite being plugged in. I hope I didn't waste your time. |

No definitely not a waste of our time because there is additional logging we should be adding anyway to troubleshoot issues like this in the future.
