Reverse Button not reversing the trade

Hello SC Support,

The reverse button on trade ticket window only flattens the trade. It should do the stop and reverse based on whatever quantity I am setting in the trade ticket. Example: if I have a 5 contract long open trade and I want to flatten all 5 + reverse just 1 short contract, I should be able to do this right? I am using Teton/IronBeam. It is only flattening the open trade without opening a short trade.

When selecting Reverse, it should close out the existing position and replace it with a position in the opposite direction with the quantity set for that chart.

What "Reverse" button are you selecting? Is this the "Reverse" button on the Trade Window, or one that is setup in a Control Bar or Keyboard Shortcut?

Is the Long position actually open, or is it a working order waiting to get filled?

Its the Reverse button on the trade window (in between the Flatten and CancelAll buttons). It was a live open trade and it only flattens with cancel all without any new reversal trade opened after flatten.

I just tried reversing 16 open contracts short trade. It only flattened and cancelled all my working orders. trade ticket qty was set to 4. Under M>Flatten Action>I have "Flatten and cancel working attached order" selected so why is it cancelling all my working orders?? I do not use or have any attached orders for this trade.

I am on version 2888.

Do you have the same issue in Simulated trading ("Trade >> Trade Simulation Mode On" enabled)?

When you have this occur, then get us your "Trade >> Trade Service Log" by following these instructions:
Support Board Posting Information: Providing Lines From Trade Service Log

Under M>Flatten Action>I have "Flatten and cancel working attached order" selected so why is it cancelling all my working orders??

The control for "M >> Flatten Action" only applies to the "Flatten" button on the Trade Window. It does not apply to the action taken when selecting the "Reverse" button, which is to do a "Flatten and Cancel", so it cancels all working orders, regardless of whether they are attached or not.

okay... I tried to reverse a 8contract position again. I cleared the Trade service log first before doing the reverse. Also, I have never used or "configured" this Reverse button. I has always been in my platform from day1.

After Reverse:

Hi John, got any update for me? Is this an issue with the platform or some configuration with my broker?

I also want to know if Reverse can work when open position size is not the same as trade ticket quantity. Can SC handle this use case? Example: I have 10 contracts trade open and I want to flatten 10 contracts + reverse only 2contracts. Is this possible in SC? Could this be the root cause?

What is this set to?:
Chart Trade Settings >> General >> Order Entry >> Position Reverse Method : {"Full Position", "Set Order Quantity"}

Set this to No:
General Trade Settings >> General >> Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed : No

We realize this last option will not support reversals when it is Yes.

Chart Trade Settings >> General >> Order Entry >> Position Reverse Method is set to "Full Position"
General Trade Settings >> General >> Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed is set to "Yes"

I have changed this to "No" so lets see if this fixes the issue. I do want all pending/working/attached orders to be cancelled first upon flatten before a new reversal order executes. If cancel does not happen, available margin requirement could block the reversal trade.

Question: Is there any dependency with the Trade Position Limit (set to 25) and Order Quantity Limit (set to 50) under "Edit Trade Count" in Trade Account Monitor window? If current open position size is above 12.5, the trade position limit could possibly also reject the reversal order (which is also not right imo).

Regardless, I do want the Reverse button to quickly "Flatten and Reverse" using whatever qty is set in the trade ticket window. I will test this out and report back.

This is not necessary to use with Teton order routing:
Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed

It should be No in this case.

These are not a problem and will not block, the order:

Reverse did not work again... I see this in the trade activity log. I was trying to reverse a 18 contract position.

The cause of the reversal not working relates to a rejection. Rather than a order quantity calculation issue. This is the problem:

MaximumPotentialPositionQuantity: 46.

Tell us what the existing working orders were at the time of the reversal. We need to know the side and the quantities.

We will work out a solution to this. Probably we will solve the original problem.

I wish I had taken a screenshot of working orders. When I reported the first time, there were definitely working orders. This time, I believe I did not have any working orders but I am not 100% sure.

Some more background.... my order fills since Sunday 18:00 ET have been acting weird. I had no weekend carryover positions so when I opened a new trade and exited the trade on Sunday, I noticed partial fills on chart pointing to last Friday's trade. This kept happening for several subsequent trades with fills pointing to Thursday and Friday. I looked at the trade activity log and there were no new fills/trades from Sunday getting registered. Google suggested I delete the TradeOrdersList.data and TradeActivityLog.dat files under SC folder which I did. Now I cannot see any of my historical fills. I tried "refresh trade data from service" and it is not downloading any historical fills. How do I fix this?

Also, I was trading small size today and a couple of reversals worked and I had some working orders also. Hope you can find a solution to make the Reverse Button working.

Hello SC Engineering,

This past few days have been hard jugging trading with resolving issues with order fills and restoring missing fills.
Issue#1: Order fills
Tracing back my steps, I think the root cause of missing fills from last Thursday started when when I flatten my trades using web panel. Reading the attached screenshot, please confirm if my local platform order fills are getting messed up when I flatten using web panel. I think they are as all 3 episodes on Thursday, Friday and Sunday night point to "show fills on chart" getting erratic after flatten from web panel.

Issue #2: Missing Historical fills.
I have followed all the steps and all my historical fills are still missing. I am only seeing from 5/26 onwards. reading
When using the Teton Order Routing Service or the Simulated Trading Service, there is order fill history for approximately three weeks. With these services, on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday up until the evening, there is order fill history available for approximately two years.
, I will try this weekend but it is extremely alarming that I have to go about trading "blind" intraday without order fills until the weekend. Why is such a limitation imposed to download historical fills only on weekends?

Issue#3: Reverse Button
works fine if my current position size is below the max trade pos size enforced by broker. One-Click Reversals does not work when I am at or near the max trade size with or without any other working orders. I think this is a serious limitation (if it is working as designed). One Click Reversals should also work when I am trying to reverse a 10 contract position with a 2 contract trade ticket size. At times this works and at times it does not. Available margin could have been the cause at times but not in all instances imo.

Issue #3: I have also experienced manual Flatten not work several times. I had to put a limit order in the opposite direction in order to flatten the trade. Why???

Issue #4: "new" Fills not showing up in TAL.
Regardless of all the issues I encountered with Historical fills, new trades did not even reflect in TAL. Why? Historical fills (closed F2F trades) should have zero effect on registering new trades imo.

I feel the main selling point of going with Teton is to avoid dealing with such issues that I used to frequently encounter with CQG trading service or reliance on validating fill history with broker statement. I should be able to QUICKLY delete all my trading history stored in local cache files, download from server and move on with my trading activity. SC platform is (and should be!) the system of record for all fills that I can use reliable in my statistical studies. None of these studies have been reliable for us this past few days. Making trading decisions based on starring at the Trade Account Monitor window and making mental notes on fills has been excruciatingly painful. Could you please help restoring my fill history before Friday?

No definitely not. It does not matter where the order was submitted from.

, I will try this weekend but it is extremely alarming that I have to go about trading "blind" intraday without order fills until the weekend. Why is such a limitation imposed to download historical fills only on weekends?
This is not what the documentation says. The documentation says that order fills during weekdays will go back three weeks. This is not a problem. This is more than enough history.

Make sure you are running an up-to-date version of Sierra Chart.

We will have a solution to the original presented scenario in the first post in the next release coming out this week:

works fine if my current position size is below the max trade pos size enforced by broker. One-Click Reversals does not work when I am at or near the max trade size with or without any other working orders. I think this is a serious limitation (if it is working as designed). One Click Reversals should also work when I am trying to reverse a 10 contract position with a 2 contract trade ticket size.
However, in this case you will need to set this to Yes:
General Trade Settings >> General >> Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed : Yes

We do not know any details about this, so we cannot answer the question:

Issue #3: I have also experienced manual Flatten not work several times. I had to put a limit order in the opposite direction in order to flatten the trade. Why???

There should not be any problem with this:

Regardless of all the issues I encountered with Historical fills, new trades did not even reflect in TAL. Why? Historical fills (closed F2F trades) should have zero effect on registering new trades imo.

Check to see that you actually have the trade activity files:
Trade Activity Log: Determining Existence of Trade Activity through Files

And also refer to:
Trade Activity Log: Trade Activity Not Displaying or Clearing (Improving Trade Activity Query Performance)

You can and you should not need to do this anyway:
I should be able to QUICKLY delete all my trading history stored in local cache files, download from server and move on with my trading activity.
We do not know what the problem is in your case at this time.

You can do this:
Could you please help restoring my fill history before Friday?

Go to the /TradeActivityLogs subfolder. See if there is a file with a date in its file name that is far into the future and incorrect. That could be the cause of the problem. You will want to delete that files or files.

See if there is a file with a date in its file name that is far into the future and incorrect. That could be the cause of the problem. You will want to delete that files or files.
- Good news! This was the root cause of missing files. I had couple of files from 2023. I now have 3 weeks of accurate fills. tomorrow/Friday night I will download all fills from 2+yrs. I still feel "something" caused these local trade log dat files to corrupt last week. Before last week, everything was just perfect.

No definitely not. It does not matter where the order was submitted from.
- I beg to defer on this. I will try again to rule out this possibility now that the local files are all clean and working. EDIT: Another possibility could be a trade I had opened last thursday at 16:58 ET and carried over into the Asia session. This action along with flatten via web panel were the only two "unusual" actions I took on last Thurs/Fri.

This is not a problem. This is more than enough history.
- I beg to defer on this also. To calculate Monthly MFE/MAE and YTD Peak Equity levels (which I use), 3 weeks is not "more than enough history". With no ability to programmatically check in ASCIL whether fills could be missing or file corrupted, automated trading could be impacted without any alert or warning

We do not know any details about this, so we cannot answer the question:
- I think I know why. I had working orders which was preventing flatten (likely due to margin availability) but if this is truly why flatten was rejected then why am I allowed to flatten via a opposing side limit order of same size to flatten the open trade? Flatten via button has the same effect of closing the trade via opposing limit order. Anyways, this is not worth your time to investigate so bring closure.

There should not be any problem with this:
... this is the one that bothered me the most and messed me up big time. Frankly, this one has affected my confidence. I have been using SC since 2018 and this is the first episode of issues with fills using Teton.

and Lastly,
We will have a solution to the original presented scenario in the first post in the next release coming out this week:
- I appreciate and welcome this fix. Could you also enforce the Flatten logic within the Reverse button to honor my settings in M> Flatten Action menu? Currently, it is cancelling all my working orders even if I have set to M>Flatten Action>Flatten and Cancel Working Attached Orders.

Make sure you are running an up-to-date version of Sierra Chart.
I am on v2888 and plan to update once the fix to reverse button is released.

Super appreciative for your time. Thanks!

if I may include one more request to have Reverse Button added to web panel, that would be awesome.

In most cases it is enough history since the fills are stored in real-time, and any missing ones are downloaded when connecting to the server. So long as you are connecting to the server at time intervals under three weeks there should not be a problem.:

Most all other trading services only store fills for one day and they are gone at the end of the day.

We did look at this but this is too complex to implement on the web trading panel safely:
