Detached Windows with Show Title Bar off makes chart difficult to move/restore

I received a chartbook from a customer that had a detached window with no title bar that was showed maximized on my 2nd monitor. It took a lot of steps to restore the window, resize it and move it to my primary monitor. I was able to use the handy "windows and chartbooks" dialog to attach this window back to Sierra main app window, enable the Show Title Bar setting and move the window around, but did notice that some combinations of turning Title Bar on/off and detaching left the window with just the border which I could double-click and it maximized the window this returning it to the "difficult to move/restore" state. I believe I have saved the attached chart book in such a state where the single chart should show maximized and difficult to control (restore, move, resize). Raising this issue to you for tracking if this does indeed present an edge use case with window management, MDI, detached, etc. Wondering if detached windows should be allowed to have the Title Bar off. Have not fully thought all the implications of that nor the full Sierra designs for this area. More insights. I WAS able to Restore the window via Keyboard (an old Windows trick if you will for windows off screen when you have a smaller screen than last saved position): Use keyboard CTRL-Spacebar and the Windows title bar context menu appears and from there you can choose Restore and move the windows, but you still need "windows and chartbooks" dialog to re-attach it. I have multiple detached charts with no visible title bar, menu, or scroll bar. This maximizes the space for charts and minimizes wasted space on my screens. If you have shortcut keys to add/remove title bars, max/restore windows, etc this isn't a problem at all. If Sierra implemented the chang you suggest, I am sure it would likely be an annoyance for more people than it solved edge case issues for. Might be an idea to setup up shortcuts for things like detaching/reattaching, max/restoring windows, add/removing menus if you are working with chartbooks from other users regularly . |

Valid perspective @User150671. tl;dr This reminds me of the "mystery meat navigation" (you can search for it) dilemma. Design decisions I guess are what interactions can be done with a mouse, keyboard, mouse only, keyboard only. I'll bet a high percentage of users have never ever pressed "ctrl+spacebar" for example to open a system menu, nor ctrl+p to print. Not really wanting this thread to devolve into a usability discussion. My main point was if a user gets themselves into a state where a detached window was maximized by accident, what steps must that person perform to restore (no pun intended) the window back to its previous state. This issue does not affect me personally; just thought it a possible edge case to consider worked as intended. I will defer to Sierra to make whatever design choices they deem appropriate here (and most likely bow out of the conversation). |

To add to what @User150671 said, having charts with no title bar, menu, or control bar is essential for maximizing screen real estate and having a clean appearance. But it can be quite a hassle to adjust such a window. A solution could be to have "show/hide title bar" as an option in the chart settings window. Title Bar Name is already there in the Display tab, that seems like a logical spot. Then it's just a right-click away from finding it. While we're at it maybe add "show/hide menu" there also. I have a "show title bar" and "show menu" button in every one of my custom control bars for this reason - there's no easy way to toggle them on or off without setting up custom keyboard shortcuts. Short of that if you have a control bar with a "show title bar" button anywhere in the layout you can "float" it, then use it for whatever chart you want, then re-attach it. It's an extra step but it works in a pinch.
