We are not able to reproduce this. When we follow the process you lay out, the "\n" stays in the Caption and does not change when we add/modify another button on the same control bar. Is this occurring in a Sub-Instance? If so, then in your main instance, check the setting for "Global Settings >> General Settings >> Always Copy Configuration Files to New Instances when Started". You may want to set this to "No".
