As a former programmer on the buy-side for more than 10 years, I find SC's public and painstaking indignation overly critical. It was not unusual for counterparties to parallelize FIX testing with the business discussion, with the understanding that the former became time wasted if the latter fell through. By the late 2000s, most FIX implementations were sufficiently mature that any additional coding needed was minor and par for the course for doing business, even if that business never materialized.
