Has anyone experienced a compatibility issue between MS Office and Sierra Chart? Every time I use SC and then try to open MS Word or Excel, I get an error message which states "Something went wrong...we couldn't start your program. Please try starting it again." No matter how many time I try it will give me the same error until I repair it. In order to get MS Office working again, I have to repair it. By process of elimination, I've narrowed it down to SC as the cause. PC Specs: Windows 10 Pro, 16GB RAM, 64-bit OS (OS build 19045.5608) MS Office: Home & Business 2016, version: 16.0.18526.20168 Thank you. |

The problem definitively cannot be Sierra Chart. Microsoft is in a massive state of hopeless deterioration. Everything they develop at this point in time is regarded as junk. The problem absolutely, is with Microsoft garbage. With Sierra Chart its use of the Windows operating system is very limited and very basic. It is not using anything unusual. It does not even use COM, unless you create a desktop shortcut. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. My guess is MS Office has somehow latched onto some DLL or other file in the SierraChart folders. It finds the file is locked when Sierra Chart is running and then breaks. Sometimes a complete removal of the entire Office suite using something like Revo Uninstaller can clean it up for a re-installation. |

Ok, thank you for your response. I’m not sure there’s a locked while SC is not running. I’ve never used SC and MS office simultaneously.

Hard to say. With Windows there are many mysteries.

Why would this be the case?: My guess is MS Office has somehow latched onto some DLL or other file in the SierraChart folders. It finds the file is locked when Sierra Chart is running and then breaks.

I have no idea. Just guessing. MS Office runs when Sierra Chart is not running. MS Office breaks when trying to run it while SC is running. What is the dependency? We may never know. I would remove and re-install MS Office. |
