I have always had storage issues on my PC because my sierra chart file was too large and this PC doesnt have very much storage built into it, I recently purchased an external hard drive so that I can

free up some space by putting getting some old files off my PC and transferring them to the hard drive, My question is would it be possible to leave the hard drive plugged in and move the sierra

chart folder into the hard drive that has way my storage space and be able to utilize the it that way or will sierra chart not run properly ? Reason asking is Im trying to find a work around

if i happen to go over my PC current storage limit that I have left, I ran into that issue in the past and had to get rid of a bunch of charts to free up space

Sierra Chart will run, but we do not recommend doing what you are suggesting. In fact, due to the amount of data that we read from disk, we recommend using Solid State Disks internal to the machine.

When you connect an external drive, you are then going over the USB interface, which is much slower than the SATA interface that is internal to your system.

The best thing would be to upgrade the drive in your computer to an NVMe SSD drive and then reinstall Sierra Chart there. There are instructions to help you with the transfer here:
