Lines, rays, and cutting drawings

I notice that after laying down a ray and using cut (so that I don't continue to see the ray all across the chart), that the anchor point shifts to the end of the ray - basically making it a line. Is it possible to preserve the anchors points and just clip past the part where I cut?

In relation to this it would be pretty helpful to have a kind of partially extended ray. It extends but not forever. You'd think you could do this with a line, but it won't be accurate due to the anchor point resting on nothing.

It's pretty common through the day to draw temporary supply and demand lines that don't need to litter the chart for the rest of time, but only be accurate for that particular day.

1. No.

2. There are no plans for this.

So something as simple as a limiting the extension of a ray is getting pushback from you guys?

Ever done any serious trading with supply/demand lines all over the chart? We cannot just remove all rays whilst leaving support resistance lines either. It's tedious to clean up and it makes traders jobs more efficient. Ultimately that's why we use a piece of software.

Not asking for a new tool here but simply a parameter. The people using volume based or non time based charts are screwed with the line tool. It won't track reliably and there's basically no benefit to connecting two candle wicks with a line (the only way to make it reliably stay put) for trading purposes.

Sierra Chart is incredibly powerful, offering robust chart configurations, drawing tools, and the ability to copy drawings between charts. It’s truly impressive.

However, one frustrating issue is with intraday trendlines that project infinitely into the future. There’s no need for some lines to extend indefinitely. When cutting these drawings, the anchor points shift, disrupting the interpolation of the entire line between the initial point and the cut. As a result, other charts displaying the same line show incorrect references.

Please consider adding a parameter that, when cutting a drawing, prevents the anchor point from moving and instead limits the line’s extension to a specific date and time where the cut occurred, at least for lines extending into the future.

Thank you!

We are not understanding the particular issue you are trying to state. If you cut a drawing, the anchor point does shift, and essentially the drawing is changed to what it now is (for instance, cutting a ray turns that into a line). But the points at which the original anchor and the new anchor are located should give you the exact same drawing for where it is still displayed. The only reason this would not be the case is if you have the option for "Auto Snap on Adjust" enabled, so it is snapping the new anchor to the nearest Open/High/Low/Close and actually changing the drawing itself.

One other possible reason for a difference would be if the cutting were to be done very close to an original anchor point, such that there are not enough bars to properly interpolate the position.

If you are having a problem where a drawing is not cutting properly, then we would need to see this.
