Chartbooks not maintaining their last organized state z-order

Hello,

Since updating my Sierra Chart this week I have noticed all the charts in the chartbook are disorganized and not in the layout I arranged them. When I arrange them back and cycle to another chartbook and return, the windows are back to the disorganized state. The disorganized state is the exact same layout the windows default to when cycling to another chartbook.

Current version is 2891 64 bit.

Is there anything I can do to stop Sierra Chart from moving around the charts when tabbed away?

Thank you for your time.

With the latest releases there are change to how the windows that are part of the main application are handled. For the item you bring up, the order of the charts is controlled by the way the charts are ordered. This can be set by either the order of the tabs, or through the "Window >> Windows and Chartbooks" window.

Hi John,

Thank you for responding.

The order seems to be correct I have always had the first 4 chart tabs as the visible charts. In the "Windows and Chartbooks" the order is also fine. The 4th chart is somehow set to default and all the minimized charts pop up all over the screen now. So in this case I don't believe this solution will work.

I took one of the chartbooks and maximized all the windows, retiled "Tile as grid -horizontally" and tried to minimize all the background chart and the charts still pop up all over the screen.

This situation is really making using Sierra Chart difficult and I would appreciate if you have any further suggestions.

Attached is a screenshot showing the 4 main windows which stay in their position however the other windows pop up around the screen and the "HO Daily" chart, which is chart #10.

I just opened another installation I have of Sierra chart (2755) and it seems to work great again.

What version of Sierra Chart are you running?

We want you to set the Minimize Method to Minimize to Bottom:
General Settings Window: MDI Child Window Minimize Method (List) (Global Settings >> General Settings >> GUI >> Multiple Document Interface (MDI) and Custom Title Bar Settings)

And then when that is done, select Window >> Arrange Minimized Windows. That should move all of the minimized windows to the bottom and put them behind other windows.

Just make sure you are running the latest version of Sierra Chart when you do this.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I was running 2890 if I recall correctly.

Right now I am using version 2755 with a backup of my chartbooks and everything is working perfectly right now.

I tried all the windows options like arranging minimized windows, which did not move them to the bottom, oddly enough.

When I have the time and patience I will try the new version.

I also want to mention in the new version it appears when you maximize a chart to fill the screen the "x" and "-" in the top right hand corner are now missing and you have to select a "restore" button near the control bar to restore the window to it's smaller size.

Thank you again for your support.

We are quite sure you when you update, and follow the instructions at post #4, you should not have any difficulties.

Hello. I updated this morning (reluctantly) to 2891 and all the issues are back. Minimized windows are all over the place and the minimized windows take priority when switching back to the chartbook.

Please...whatever you did in the updates to change how the windows function, please restore them to how they operated before.

I just revered back to 2755 and thankfully everything is back to normal. I just don't know how long I can stay on this version until other things break.

Thank you.

Did you follow the instructions and post #4? Not sure why you are having the problem with minimized windows. We will think about that. We will make sure minimized windows, when they are shown, even if not activated that they are at the bottom of the order.

We will never in a trillion years do anything like this at all. It is 1000%, out of the question. Never ever ever to be considered. Would be completely and totally lunatic and insane for us to even think of such a thing.

Please...whatever you did in the updates to change how the windows function, please restore them to how they operated before.
There were some serious operating system level problems in Windows that we were resolving by implementing the functionality ourselves, and we will determine a solution related to minimized windows . Although we do not see that problem.

Yes I followed the instructions in post 4. If a table was messy it would move the mess to one side of the table it would still be there. All it does is move the windows to the bottom which does not solve the problem of the charbook changing the view of the charts when clicking to another chartbook and returning to all the minimized windows in the forefront

I understand in a trillion years you will not consider restoring the windows to their previous functionality and I understand that as things change they don't always benefit everyone. In this case it makes the program extremely inconvenient because of instead of being able to take a quick glance at my chartbook, I have to spend 20-30 seconds getting everything moved and back and this would consume my entire day.

I will continue to utilize version 2755 for now.

Thank you for your support.

Hi I would just like to follow up if the window issues have been looked into and if there is any planned resolution. Thank you!

Hi I just updated to 2920 and the issue of not retaining the previous state still exists. Example: I have 4 charts in a grid with multiple charts in the background. When I leave the chartbook and return to it, the program disregards however I setup the screen and puts it to some default state with background windows now in the foreground.

How can I set it so when I come back to my chartbook it's exactly how as I left it? I even have the 4 main charts I want to keep in the foreground as #1, #2, #3 and #4, respectively. Instead the program always brings up #9, #11, #3 and #12.

Unfortunately I will be returning to 2755 where the chartbook behaviour is as it was before the interface changes.

Thank you, John, and I look forward to resolving this with you.

Good day I would just like to mention again about other chart windows in the background in a chartbook continue to move to the foreground upon returning to the chartbook. Is it possible to save the state of a chartbook so it doesn't automatically bring up charts from the background? Instead of clicking on a chartbook and getting information at a glance it requires 10-15 seconds every single time to get the windows back to the foreground. I don't understand why the program is so insistent on choosing the view for me.

Thank you again for your time and patience.

We cannot say anything more about this.

You have fully the ability to solve this:
I don't understand why the program is so insistent on choosing the view for me.

Reorder the charts in Window >> Windows and Chartbooks.

Thank you. I have looked into the Window >> Windows and Chartbooks several times throughout this process and the first 4 charts that should be in the foreground were always the first 4 in the list. For some reason the order in that menu is not correlated to what is happening. If I come up with a solution on my end I will post here.

Thank you for your efforts.

Hello I just received a warning that the version I am on is no longer supported.

Can you please provide me the oldest version where the menu z-order were not changed?

Please reply at your earliest possibility as I am now without software. It's been over a month since the last update here.

Thank you.

As a reminder I am on version 2755 Rev 52955 right now.

In revision 2933 rev 57532 the z-order is still broken.

What do you mean by "the z-order is still broken"? In version 2931 there was a change so that the order of the windows is kept from when you saved the chartbook. It is no longer related to the order of the charts in the "Windows and Chartbooks" window.

You should not be having an issue with this on the latest release. If you are, then what exactly is occurring?

Hi John. Thank you for responding. As I feared due to time we have forgotten the issue. I will do my best to explain again.

As an example: When I open my chartbook I am greeted with my charts #1 to #4 (there are 12 charts in one chartbook). After the update, the chartbook chooses it's own arrangement. Instead of #1-4 it chooses #11, #12, #9 and #3. I will rearrange the charts back to displaying 1-4. When I click away from the chartbook and perform the similar task on my other chartbooks and come back to check the charts, the program reverts back to what it wants me to see. So in my case on the one chartbook #11,#12,#9 and #3. I have to manually put the charts back in the order I left it every single time I want to check my charts. So instead of getting a quick glance I have to spend 20-30 seconds re-arranging the windows.

Another example. On my next chartbook I have #1-#4 in the foreground just like the above chartbook. When I click away to fix the arrangement again in the first chartbook I come back to #12, #14, #5 and #3. Nothing I do changes the default behaviour. I am so frustrated that the program is choosing what I want to see when I click on the chartbook.

Saving does nothing. I was hopeful this could be resolved before I was forced into the newer versions. Now I am stuck.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Also I tried to minimize all the other chartbooks and arrange the 4 visible desired charts horizontally and this works, however I would prefer the other charts open in the background. It is important to note another poor behaviour when the other charbooks are minimized, they show up in the foreground ON TOP of the charts in little boxes and there is nothing I can do to hide them, including "arrange minimized windows".

I prefer having to re-arrange the #1-4 charts than to have minimized windows cluttering up the screen. However this is still unacceptable.
