I've been experiencing issues since the recent upgrades where my charts just freeze for a 1-4 seconds randomly throughout the day. It happens right the middle of trades sometimes while I'm trying to move my stops or targets. It has cost me money multiple times now. Have there been any other reports of this? Anything I can try to improve things?

Is the user interface of Sierra Chart frozen? Does it become inoperable when this is happening? Or is it a case where just the chart is not updating. For example can you interact with the menus of Sierra Chart during this time? Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. From what I can tell, it is everything. Naturally, the more common thing is when I'm working with charts but I have experienced it in menus as well.

I just had a freeze up and immediately opened the logs to see if anything was recorded. I noticed it reported a system time offset followed by an attempt to reset the system clock which failed due to client permissions. I closed the software and relaunched it as administrator and I can see it updated the clock successfully. I don't have any specific reason to believe this was causing the issue, but the timing seemed somewhat relevant. I see it pings NTP roughly every minute, so it is probably just a coincidence. Thought it was worth mentioning tho.

This issue persists. Any updates or suggestions?

Post #4, is not the cause of the issue. We are not clear if Sierra Chart is actually freezing. If it is, enable OS Timers: General Settings Window: Use OS Timer for Charts (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> Update Intervals) Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Thanks for this. When going into the timer settings I discovered that my software was already using OS timers. So I flipped it back to using Sierra's timers and will tweak the settings from there to see if that helps alleviate things. I have my execution charts set to lower values and all other charts on higher values. If I experience those freeze ups, I'll gradually increase the timers on the execution charts to see if I can tune out those issues. Otherwise, I'll have to try to look into other options. But testing this out in replay, the chart's action feels smoother. Granted I only replayed a single execution chart. I'll switch to replaying all charts in the chartbook as the next test since we're into the weekend now and I won't have live futures data to test against. I've also removed all references to my spreadsheet study from any chart that doesn't actually need it and reduced the number of lines in the spreadsheet as well. Hopefully all this will help. I will update with results.

So in doing further testing, I am still seeing some freeze ups. I'm attaching a screenshot of my chart and my task manager. You'll see that when the issue occurs, the SC process goes unresponsive in task manager, and the replay and order windows go blank or disappear altogether. This lasts for a couple/few seconds and then recover on their own. I have what I consider to be a lot of studies on my chart. There are 28 items in total including 5 that reference a spreadsheet study, multiple VWAPs, multiple volume profiles, and a few other benign items like watermarks and a clock. I've change the timers to Sierra Chart and set the execution chart to 10ms while other charts are at 250ms. Do you believe these settings could be causing the freeze ups? If so, what adjustments might you recommend? |

We apologize for the delay on this. Really something like this you have to go through a process of elimination. For example, removing studies from a chart one by one to see which one might be causing the problem. And closing, charts to see if a particular chart is the problem. All the known items that can cause high CPU usage are described here: High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often Generally we would believe the issue would be with the Spreadsheet study. So maybe reducing the amount of data in the Spreadsheet Sheets. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. This is really hard for us to say from our perspective: I've change the timers to Sierra Chart and set the execution chart to 10ms while other charts are at 250ms. Do you believe these settings could be causing the freeze ups? If so, what adjustments might you recommend?
One thing you may want to do is enable Timer Management: General Settings Window: Timer Management Enable (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> Update Intervals) And what is this setting set to?: General Settings Window: Minimum Delay Between Chart Updates in Milliseconds (Global Settings >> General Settings >> General >> Update Intervals) Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
