Hi I've noticed over the last week or so that my historical data DLY files haven't always updated to the latest day when I launch SC in the morning. This isn't on every instrument, only some. The instrument where it came to my attention is VX futures but it isn't limited to that. I download the VX forward curve e.g. VXH26, VXHJ26, VXK26, etc and they didn't update this week. Last date in those files was Friday 23rd January. I've launched SC twice this week (in the morning UK time) and they didn't update. I've just forced an update now via "Download Data For All Historical Charts" - this worked. Any ideas why this might be happening on start-up? Trades have occurred in those contracts on the missing day (Monday 26th) so it wasn't because of 0 trades. I couldn't see anything suspicious in the log. I realise it might be to do with my setup, so for me to troubleshoot can you tell me how does SC keep those files up to date? After launch does it loop through each DLY file in the Data directory and update them 1 by 1? Or is it triggered by open historical charts? And while on this subject what time do the DLY files update in the evening for the current day? Is this an automatic update or does it need to be triggered manually via "Download Data For All Historical Charts"? |

You mention a "Forward Curve". Are you actually using the Forward Curve study? Are you looking at the data in daily files themselves? If so, then the current day data will not be present in the file. The Daily Data updates at the end of the day. Specifically, it is done according to the time set in the following setting: Data/Trade Service Settings: Historical Daily Data Download Time (Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Historical Daily Data) But, you can not set that time to something earlier than when the exchange itself makes that data available - which again is typically after the close of the trading day. sorry, no, I meant I have my own VIX forward curve custom study I developed. it works via open VX historical charts. so I have charts for VXG25, VXH25, etc open out to VXU26. I hide all of these charts so I can't see them in the chartbook. I've had the study for a couple of years but I noticed last week it wasn't updating correctly. When I looked at the individual contract open charts I noticed they were not updating. For instance, this morning when I launched SC, all of them did not update with Monday Jan 26th which I would expect launching on Tuesday 27th. The charts had a real-time bar for Tuesday 27th but the Monday 26th bar was completely missing and the last row in the DLY files was for Friday 23rd. All VX contracts were in the same state. I also noticed some other (non-VX) contracts were also in this state, which is why I redownloaded everything using "Download Data for All Historical Charts". I had to do this one day last week as well. I was just wondering what I should look for to troubleshoot this issue if it keeps repeating? I have many historical charts open, by the way. big chartbooks with many charts - I pay for the extra historical data downloads. Noted on the time settings for post-market historical data downloads. |

You have everything covered, particularly with the additional downloads, as you do have 24975 downloads used so far this month. So that is not an issue. Given this, we do not see any reason for you to have a problem. You simply should be getting the data when you connect. Last week Monday was the Market Luther King holiday in the U.S. so many markets were closed, including the CBOE, so if you had an issue viewing Monday data last week, then that was most likely the issue. But this week, you should be fine. The thing to do when you have missing data is to redownload the data, as you have done. If you have the issue again, then get us your Message Log before you redownload the data, by following these instructions: Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases) We want to see if the log shows an attempt to download the data and maybe shows an error for some reason.
