Sierra Chart (64-bit) won’t open — process runs in Task Manager but no window appears (Windows 11 on Parallels) Hello Sierra Chart Support, I’m experiencing a startup issue where **SierraChart_64.exe appears in Task Manager but the application window never opens**. No errors are displayed — the process just runs silently in the background. ### Environment * **Hardware:** Apple iMac (M4, 10-core GPU) * **Virtualization:** Parallels Desktop 19 * **Guest OS:** Windows 11 ARM (fully updated) * **Sierra Chart Version:** [2807 64 bit] * **Installation Path:** `C:\Sierra\` * **Data Feed:** sierra ### What Happens When I start Sierra: * The process (`SierraChart_64.exe`) appears in Task Manager. * CPU usage idles between 22%. * No visible window or UI ever appears. * The process must be ended manually intask manager. * The ARM version will open but that version doesn't show the volume from the chartbooks and studies we use on standard 64 bit version * It has run succesfully since I have had an acount roughly 4 months ### Steps I’ve Already Tried 1. Full uninstall and clean reinstall to `C:\Sierra\`. 2. Renamed / deleted config files: * `Sierra4.config`, `Accounts4.config`, `KeyboardShortcuts4.config`, `AppConfiguration.xml` 3. Attempted safe-mode and diagnostic launches: ``` "C:\Sierra\SierraChart_64.exe" -safe "C:\Sierra\SierraChart_64.exe" -d "C:\Sierra\SierraChart_64.exe" -safe -clearsavedwindowpositions ``` 4. Tried both 64-bit and 32-bit executables. 5. Confirmed no chartbooks or custom studies in `/Data`. 6. Disabled hardware acceleration in `AppConfiguration.xml`. 7. Verified Windows and Parallels graphics settings (Scaled, 512 MB video memory). 8. Ensured full folder permissions and admin rights. 9. Sierra launches *silently* (a quick flash, then nothing visible). ### Additional Information * No `WindowPositions4.config` or `GlobalSettingsWindows4.config` files exist. * No crash report is produced in `C:\Sierra\` or `C:\Sierra\Data\`. * The issue persists even with the diagnostic flag (`-d`). * I’m running the latest Windows 11 ARM build and latest Parallels Tools. Could you please advise: * Unsure if i can actually supply message log as unable to open program to access can not find message log file in sierra folder Thank you very much for your help, **Lee Stevenson** --- |

Do you get the Login screen? If so, then have you tried to start Sierra Chart in "Safe Mode"? Refer to the following: Sierra Chart - Software Login Instructions: Using Safe Mode If you are not getting the Login screen, then our best guess is that the program is starting up off the visible are of the monitor/screen area. We are not sure how to deal with this on Parallels. But if you do a search for "window off screen windows 11" you will get a lot of hits on how to resolve this. **Virtualization:** Parallels Desktop 19
Version 26 is the latest. Verified Windows and Parallels graphics settings (Scaled, 512 MB video memory).
Try using automatic memory config.

The Issue Sierra Chart (x64 version) would not open inside Windows 11 ARM on a Mac running Parallels. The process showed in Task Manager, but no window appeared. The ARM version opened fine, but the x64 version was required for custom studies. Root Cause You were correct John thank you Windows 11 ARM emulates x64 apps. Sierra Chart is incompatible with one of the newer ARM CPU emulation features, causing it to start invisibly with no UI. The Fix 1. Enable the ARM compatibility option: - Right-click SierraChart_64.exe → Properties → Compatibility → Change emulation settings - Turn on: “Hide newer emulated CPU features (x64 apps only)” 2. Run Sierra as Administrator: - Right-click SierraChart_64.exe → Properties → Compatibility - Enable: “Run this program as an administrator” Optional Step Use Sierra’s “Reset Windows” feature once it opens to avoid future off-screen window issues. Result After applying both settings, Sierra Chart x64 launches correctly with all chartbooks working. |
