Hello, I was doing a manual backtest from 2021-07-06 (and logging it elsewhere) trading normally on SIM on symbol 6EM25-CME (I'm using Service Package 5, seemed to be able to display 2021 and before fine until now), up until 2021-07-13, 14:30 PM in replay, with no problems, for many days, when all of a sudden at that point in time the bars on chart start rapidly speeding up, getting totally out of line (probably jumping too far in the future, etc). On 1X speed, or whatever speed you choose, they are still rapidly speeding up. So that speed is definitely not 1X or similar anymore, but some fixed, very high speed. Also range number bar chart starts interestingly, showing 00:00 bar durations only. I set up two screenshots to show the difference until which point everything is fine (every time I replay back at that time, 14:30, everything is still the same as I was familiar with, after that point everything gets unfamiliar to the previous chart context, levels, etc.) I always used a Standard Replay only. I'm using a date range for all intraday charts to show the period up until 2021-08-06. They all have different start dates due to different data loading needs. I tried to delete and download data, and all the other simple fixes, but nothing works. Later, the same problem happened at other replay modes, not only the Standard. I don't understand why this happened, can anyone point out at the problem and solution? Keep in mind that in real life, for me, that kind of jump happened in only a few seconds. But, on replay 1X speed, that kind of move shouldn't happen; this looks more like 100X+. Also, the number bars range chart also appears to be broken structurally, too. I had a third intraday chart, this one time-based bars chart (15M, 1H, 4H), but I didn't screenshot it, but it also appears weird, it won't print a new bar, but the new bar is jumping all around fast, not like 1X. Setting them all to the same data range or de-linking didn't help, etc. Point in time when everything is fine for the last time: https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1747863568977.png Point in time after everything is not fine anymore: https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1747863692428.png Thanks for looking into this. I don't know what to do now. Would prefer to be able to continue my backtest from the same context I was familiar with, still from 07-13. And even if I pick some other date range in time to backtest, what if something like this happens again? What is the solution? And did I even use the "right" 2021 data until now? Is this kind of backtest even possible in your program? Manual backtest, going in the past, but with different ranges in time due to data loading concerns (for example, 5, 30, 120 intraday days going back from the backtest chosen start date, depending on the timeframe of the chart you use for trading context). Is it on a different package? |

Definitely disable Skip Empty Periods: Replaying Charts: Skip Empty Periods And make sure you know, what Contract month and year you are looking at in the chart at all times: Continuous Futures Contract Charts: Displaying Rollover Transition Times and Contract Months You may be replaying an inactive contract. Thanks, I disabled skip empty periods now, but it still isn't working. Also, I have a confusion here, I can't seem to find old symbols before 2025 on Find Symbol. So I started backtesting from the current month, 6EM25, as the chart symbol, but using the past data range in data limiting, and it was displaying a range inside of 2021, fine up until that point. Was that originally a mistake? But isn't that the only option if I can't find old symbols? My service package is 5. Also, at the time when data starts glitching and replay mode stops working properly, it is still not yet the time for a rollover, so this might not be the issue. Here, I have a screenshot of the chart and rollover lines, right before the time the glitch always starts: https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1747888507471.png Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-05-22 04:45:54

Also, another thing I forgot to mention is that the replay mode speed returned to being controllable again, and candles started exhibiting normal behavior again from later on that day (a few hrs later). So, my main question now, for example, is, can I still continue my backtest on 7-14 again as usual, as if nothing happened, and ignore that episode? As all of the fixes I tried failed. I was not sure if I could trust the integrity of the data I am receiving anymore. Or stuff like this (small corruptions) is normal, and I should just continue the backtest without worrying? To load a specific symbol that is not listed in the "Find Symbol" window, you need to type in that symbol in the "Selected Symbol" field. For instance, to get the data for the 6E M contract from 2021, you would enter the symbol as 6EM21-CME. But, you are using a Continuous Futures Contract, which is why you are able to view the data going back that far without having to load that specific symbol. What you are doing is fine as long as that is what you want to do. Refer to the information on Continuous Contracts here: Continuous Futures Contract Charts We are not sure of what you are seeing or why. We would not refer to it as a "small corruption". If you think the underlying data is not correct for some reason, then follow these instructions to redownload the data: Continuous Futures Contract Charts: Re-Downloading Continuous Futures Contract Data For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |
