Horizontal Lines at Increment

Description

The Horizontal Lines at Increment study is used to draw one or more horizontal lines on other studies and on the main price graph based on a starting value an a set offset increment for the lines.

The lines can be drawn in any region on the chart by setting the Settings >> Settings and Inputs >> Chart Region setting in the Study Settings window to the Chart Region you want to display the lines in.

The Horizontal Lines at Increment study can be added as many times as you require to a chart.

The Horizontal Lines at Increment study supports drawing up to 60 horizontal lines. The value of each of the lines is set based on either a study subgraph or an entered value in combination with the Line Increment Input.

The visibility of a horizontal line is controlled through the Number of Lines to Draw Input. When using an entered Starting Value, then individual lines can have their Draw Style set to Ignore or Hidden in order to achieve a jump in the increment setting.

The actual number of subgraphs that will be visible in the Subgraphs tab will match the Number of Lines to Draw. Other lines subgraphs will not be visible.

The Subgraph Name for each line is automatically set to the value of the line.

Name and Value Labels can be enabled for each line. A custom Short Name can be assigned to the Name Label as well.

When the Input for Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value is set to Based on Study Subgraph, the Draw Style for the lines is automatically set to Line from End of Chart Right to Left and can not be changed. This is to ensure that processing time is minimal in this situation.

When the Input for Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value is set to Based on Entered Start Value, then the Draw Style for the lines can be changed as desired.

Filling the Area between Two Horizontal Lines

If you want to use the Horizontal Lines at Increment study draw a rectangular filled region between two levels on a chart, then follow these general instructions:

  1. On the Settings and Inputs tab of the Study Settings window for the study, set the Chart Region setting to 1.
  2. Enable the Draw Study underneath Main Price Graph option.
  3. Set the Input for Set Start Value Baed on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value to Based on Entered Start Value.
  4. Set the Input for Starting Value to the desired value.
  5. On the Subgraphs tab of the Study Settings window for the study, set the Draw Style for the first line's Subgraph to Fill Rectangle Top.
  6. Set the Draw Style for the second line's Subgraph to Fill Rectangle Bottom.
  7. Change any other Subgraphs settings as required.

Inputs

  • Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value: This defines whether the starting value for the lines is defined by a selected study subgraph or a single entered value. The following selections are available:
    • Based on Study Subgraph: When this option is selected, then the study subgraph defined in the Input for Study and Subgraph for Starting Value is used to set the starting point of the lines.

With this selection, the Draw Style of the subgraphs for this study are automatically set to Line from End of Chart Right to Left and can not be changed.
    • Based on Entered Start Value: When this option is selected, then the value entered in Starting Value is used to set the starting point of the lines.
  • Study and Subgraph for Starting Value: This sets the study and subgraph to be used to set the starting point of the lines when Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value is set to Based on Study Subgraph.
  • Subgraph Bar Offset for Starting Value: When Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Enetered Start Value is set to Based on Study Subgraph, then this sets an offset to be used to determine the bar from which the subgraph value is derived. Only positive values can be entered, which determine the bar going back from the most current bar in the referenced subgraph.
  • Starting Value: This sets the starting point of the lines when Set Start Value Based on Study Subgraph or Entered Start Value is set to Based on Entered Start Value.
  • Line Increment: This value is the spacing between the lines.
  • Number of Lines to Draw: This defines the number of total lines to be drawn.
  • Draw Lines Above and Below Start Value: When this is set to Yes, then the lines are drawn in increments going both above the starting line and below the starting line. Otherwise, when this is set to No, then the lines will only be drawn from the starting point and going above it.
  • Set All Subgraph Display Settings to Be Same as First: When this Input is set to Yes, then the Draw Style, Primary Color, Line Style, Line Width and Name and Value Labels for the first Subgraph are also applied to the remaining Subgraphs. Use this with caution because it will change the Draw Style for any lines that were set to Ignore or Hidden to a visible style. So it should only be used if you want to have all the lines defined by the Number of Lines to be Drawn to be visible.
