Use a value like ID7.SG3 in another study?

Hi, I'd like to use averages to determine the correct amount of volume or delta to show in numbers bars and other similar applications. So say I create a volume study and simple 20 period MA of it and want to display text in numbers bars that's 10% of the MA so .1*ID7.SG3 Can this be done? Having lots of charts up would be a pain to constantly change values by hand in so many charts. |

You can definitely calculate and display the information, but you can not display it in a table like the Numbers Bars Calculated Values without creating a custom study. In order to display the information as text, like the Numbers Bars Calculated Values (but without the borders), you would use the "Study Subgraph Multiply" to do the final calculation (.1 * ID7.SG3). Then set the Subgraph Draw Style for that study to be "Value of Subgraph". Also set the "Width/Size" for this to be something visible, such as 8 or 10. When you apply those changes, you will see the numbers displayed in the region for that study. To flatten them out, change the Range of the scale to be very large, which will force the numbers into a single line. Then you can adjust the size of the region so you are only seeing the numbers. Hi, That's very useful and I will use that information but I think I must not have been clear and apologize. I want to use the number IN another study like volume by price or numbers bars. Here's an example say I have 1m chart and using volume find the 20 period moving avg of volume. I then create a volume by price study to show this on every bar and I use 10% of volume MA to SHOW VOLUME for that study. Or for numbers bars I display text that is 10% of the moving avg of volume. The volume and MA is dynamic and thus it will change my numbers bars and how they are displayed over time based on the dynamic nature of the market! Having to do this manually on many charts would be nearly impossible while trading. Hopefully I'm clear now. I tried putting in a value say ID3.SG3 in volume by price text display field and it didn't work so assume this is not YET possible :-) |

We are not really understanding what you are wanting to display, or how you want to display it. You can use values from studies with other studies, depending on what they do. Or you can use the Arithmetic studies or the Spreadsheet Formula to calculate something out. But we really do not understand what you mean about wanting to display this in the Numbers Bars or Volume by Price. For these studies in particular, there is not a way to base the information off something other than the Main Price Graph (if that is what you are trying to do). I do NOT want to display anything. You know how numbers bars and volume by price let you input a threshold for DISPLAYING text? Instead of ME putting this number in there to see significant high volume areas I want to use a STUDY to find a dynamic number and use that number to display the text So imagine this is a numbers bar 0 x 5 100 x 150 175 x 60 if I have text threshold set to 100 it displays _ _ 100 x 150 175 x _ _ Instead of me putting in this 100 value I want to get it from a variable such as 20 period moving avg of volume I might want to show 10% of the avg so would use 0.1 x ID7.SG1 where ID7.SG1 is the moving avg of volume. I'm pretty sure this can't currently be done as I've tried to do it so many times and can't ever get it to work. |

You can not do this. Not for those built-in studies.
