Hi, I'm close to buying a macbook pro. One of my concerns is that Sierra might not run stable using additional software - specially because I use Sierra also for order entry. Because it's free, wine or winetricks look interesting. Can anybody describe his or hers experiences using this "bridge"? hi I'm using Linux/Wine for years and I can't recommend you to use Wine as a main trading platform. You might want to search my posts here on the forum . So ask SC team for a native MacOS version :) |

I've run SierraChart on Wine on Linux for several years (Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Arch). Thanks to ganz for his posts. Although it has a few UI quirks it's not enough to push me back to windows. I too am looking forward to the nix/osx version but wine is ok. It is my main platform along with TWS which runs natively under Java. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-06-20 21:15:00

timo, I have a friend who uses SC, IQFeed Data, and trades through IB. He uses a 15" rMBP running in Boot Camp, the Mac's environment that effectively turns the entire machine into a PC. You don't need Parallels, or anything else, unless you want to run both the virtual PC and the Mac side at the same time. However, you can't trade live in Parallels, it divides the resources between two computers and can leave you short on the PC side. It is a great solution. He also connects the rMBP to his 27" hi res iMac screen. It is all just rock solid and beautiful. Great way to go. Ged |

Thanks for all the replies. I think running Sierra under a windows enviroment even on the mac might be the cleanest way to do it. But I was curious if there are some good experiences using it with wine, which might make using Sierra on a mac easy without installing windows. By that time I have no own experiences, so I have to test it myself Btw, I just bought the macbook and like it very much. In general this should be for travelling as I have a PC here for usual trading. But nevertheless I vote for a native mac OS Sierra version... |
