I'm having a problem with TD Ameritrade data displaying daily charts on certain stocks. The ticker is SMG. I've gone to TD Ameritrade's website to see if the ticker is valid & it is. I have also tried this:

http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails2.html

And it doesn't work. The error log says this:

HD Request # 9 - Error downloading historical Daily data for SMG. Data acquisition failed for 1 of 1 requests.Error retrieving data. | 2014-05-19 12:41:30

Can anyone tell me what is the problem? I have about 30 stocks that have the same error.

Any help is appreciated.

This is an error from TD Ameritrade. We will look into it and see if there is anything we can do to help.

We have now looked into this. We do see the error from the TD Ameritrade server when requesting any kind of historical data for SMG.

Did this problem just suddenly start to occur? We assume so. We also assume this symbol is on the NYSE and not NASDAQ?

Not really sure what we can do about it. If the Ameritrade server is not providing the data, then it is not providing the data.

We have started to offer our own stock data feed. But this costs 45 USD a month. So not sure if you are interested in that? The Sierra Chart data feed works very well.

Thank you for the offer, but I don't have an extra $45 per month in the budget.

To answer your questions, I recently looked up these tickers & noticed that they didn't work.

There are more tickers that this happens with. Did you see the list that I provided above in a previous post? Some are on the NYSE some on the NASDAQ.

Are you saying that this is totally a TD Ameritrade issue? Is there something I can contact them to ask them about? It seems odd, that there is a list of them. I'm not sure what they all have in common, that's why I'm wondering why these tickers.

We have not heard from Ameritrade, and we do not really have a lot of faith in this problem getting resolved promptly by them.

We can provide a solution. You just need to change your Sierra Chart Service package to 3. It is only a little more. When using service package 3 the historical Daily data will come from Sierra Chart and in the next release we will add support for historical Intraday data also from Sierra Chart.

To change your Sierra Chart service package, select "Help >> Account Control Panel" on the Sierra Chart program menu. On the displayed webpage, click on "Change Service Package".

The remaining service usage time on your account will be adjusted based upon the cost of the package you are changing to. If the new package is a higher-priced package, then the usage time will be reduced due to the higher price.

There is no charge for changing your Sierra Chart service package. Only your usage time is adjusted.

Just to let you know, we did hear from Ameritrade. They did acknowledge the problem but we do not know when it will be resolved.

The latest Sierra Chart version supports downloading historical Intraday data when using Ameritrade, from the Sierra Chart Historical Data Service if you are on package 3.

Let us know if you want to change your package to 3. You can update Sierra Chart with Help >> Download Prerelease.
