Removing the Delay from Loading the Current Bar on a Historical Chart

Is there any way (other than keeping the chart open for longer) to force the download for the current bar rather than wait for a real time tick? I have been looking around and can't find anything to configure this. What I want is to open the historical chart and see the most up-to-date bar loaded rather than have to wait for a tick from the exchange. Otherwise, during low volume periods or when looking at thinly traded products, I have to wait a long time to see the current bar and make my trading decisions.

We really do not understand what you are wanting. The data you have is the data that exists. Yes, the system does not update until there is another trade, but until that trade occurs, there is nothing new to display, so what you are seeing at that time reflects the actual trading that has occurred. So we do not understand what are you wanting to display when there has not been a trade.

What I am saying is that the latest daily bar shows up with a delay when I open/switch between historical charts. For example, this is especially noticeable when I switch between a thinly traded product like QG (e-mini natural gas) or QC (e-mini copper) and something very liquid like MNQ (micro nasdaq). There is at least variable 3 - 10 second delay from when historical data has finished loading before the latest daily bar loads in when I switch to QG or QC. I am assuming this is because Sierra Chart waits for a tick update from some server with the market data to load the latest bar, so what I am asking for is there a setting or something I can tweak to see the bar instantly?

The last bar in a Historical Daily chart by default is updated with real-time data. It is already up to date. Nothing you have to do. Refer to: Historical Chart Prices Go through that page. In particular 12.3. No this is not the case: I am assuming this is because Sierra Chart waits for a tick update from some server with the market data to load the latest bar,

Could you help me understand why there is this delay when switching between symbols then? The delay improves after having recently viewed the chart but switching around causes the delay again. I also find this delay is worse in the Asian session. Do I just need a faster machine/internet?

What you are seeing is simply the system having to go out and get the missing data between the times when you are not viewing that symbol. A faster Internet connection and SSD/NVME drives can help with this, but you may just want to have the charts open for those symbols at all times in order to have the data always updating. For Intraday data, you can use the following setting to get the data stored while you are connected: Global Settings Menu: Intraday File Update List (Global Settings menu) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Ah ok, thank you for the explanation. I understand I could just keep the charts open, but I trade a lot of products and it would be hard to tab through them without a watchlist. There would be a lot of tabs. Regarding your explanation that the software is only getting missing data, if that is the case, then how come it only occurs for thinly-traded products like QG or QC? MNQ loads instantly. By the way, is there a way to get an intraday chart where the timeframe is daily? That would probably fix this issue for me. |
