Disappearing Trades

I have traded using SC and IB for over a year. In the last few days I have seen my trades fill on the chart and then disappear. The trades are still live with IB. If I place an order I can see it on the chart until it fills, after the fill it shows for a few seconds then disappears. Charts no longer show my open trades. It is not confined to one chart, it is all charts. I have installed latest version 2323. The only thing I can think that is different is a few days ago I installed a newer version (before 2323 but I don't know which one). I have not experienced this problem before. Many thanks.

Having gone backwards and forwards with IB I think that the problem is with SC. As I said the problem started after an SC upgrade. I use an older version of SC on another computer no.2247 (have not upgraded for a while), this version still works fine. I downloaded the latest version no.2323 on the same computer and this version gave me the same problem. The problem has arisen somewhere between versions 2247 and 2323.

Use the latest prerelease:
Software Download: Fast Update

See if that resolves the issue. And we want to know the symbol you have the problem with. If it is a stock symbol you will need to use the full complete stock symbol format.

I can now see my positions provided I use the complete stock format in the Trade and Quote Symbol field. E.g. Ticker PLTR, have to add PLTR-STK-SMART-USD. Whilst it works this is not a viable solution as I fast switch between tickers when trading which isn't possible doing it this way. Can you fix it so that it works like before? I tried some other tickers, same problem (GEO, DIS). If I put the complete format in the Symbol field it does not download prices, says invalid stock symbol.

We are most definitely not going to make any further efforts with Interactive Brokers symbology.

We should remove the complex simple mapping that exists and only support the full format for the Trade and Current Quote Symbol.

The complexity is on the Interactive Brokers side. Not on the Sierra Chart side.

For the main Symbol of the chart, use the simple stock symbol and then for the Trade and Current Quote Symbol setting use the full Interactive Brokers symbol.

I appreciate that you get annoyed with IB. But this feature worked fine a few weeks ago. Now it doesn't. In the UK if we want to use SC we have only one broker option for US stocks which is IB. IB are a huge international business. I would have thought it was worth the effort on your side. I guess retail traders like me are no longer your target audience.

I'll go back to an old version of SC and stop upgrading which no doubt will become an issue at some point in the future.

Used SC for over 10 years, used it with IB for 18 months. Shame because I love SC, I'd hate to lose it. I also use Motive Wave which is vastly inferior to SC in many ways, but it does not seem to have this problem with IB.

If you can find the time to solve the problem I'd be very grateful

As an FYI for anyone else in this situation version 2310, seems to work fine.

One thing that you can do is add new Symbol Settings in Global Settings >> Symbol Settings using Duplicate from an existing stock pattern, for an individual specific stock symbol, and then what you do is set a corresponding Trade and Current Quote Symbol in those symbol settings for that specific stock symbol which is set to the full Interactive Brokers required symbol.

That does not seem to be a viable solution. I'd have to manage every symbol individually. In 2310 it does not work. I'm guessing that this is a deliberate change that you have made because you are fed up with IB or their API is in conflict with something else you have going on. Surely the IB tickers are necessarily complex because of the vast number of products that can be traded. Isn't that something you want to embrace?

If you don't want to support IB anymore that of course is your commercial decision but can you be upfront about it please. I invest a huge amount on time in configuring my systems and I need certainty of outcome. As I said I have no alternative than to use IB.

See if you still notice the issue in the latest prerelease. We do not know what the cause is, but there was one change we made which may affect it.

No, but one thing that we would do deliberately with these issues, is remove support to use simple US stock symbols with Interactive Brokers but we have not done that.

And it is your responsibility to use the right symbol with Interactive Brokers and if you need to use the full entire symbol, that is what you need to use:
Interactive Brokers Symbols: Stocks With Specified Exchange and Primary Exchange Format
