[Programming Help] - Spreadsheet System for Trading Test Procedure - issues

Dear Support

I'm having some issues with the example provided.

1) I cannot seem to download "SpreadsheetTradeTest.scss" it just opens. "SpreadsheetSystemForTradingTesting.cht" download without issue.

2) Following the instructions, i.e., entering a "1, or 0" in KLMN does not result in J5 displaying that value.

Any help appreciated and any direction towards an up-to-date video example would be great.

Many thanks.

That link is broken.

However, you don't really need that spreadsheet file to do the test described here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/SpreadsheetTradingTestProcedure.php

In that documentation, pay attention to item #8.
You must move the chart into the past before you press Play so that it has some bars to replay.

The link is not broken, the problem is that the file extension of .scss, which we use for our spreadsheets has another meaning as a Style Sheet. Therefore, the browser is trying to open it thinking is is a different file from what it is.

You would need to right click and select the option for Save Link As in order to download and use the file.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I am finding the Sierra support material and examples fairly limited with respect to this feature. Anthony did a video but it's probably at least 7-8 years old a extremely basic i.e., no intermediate level examples such as multiple exit criteria etc. Optimus also illustrate the spreadsheet trading feature but the example couldn't be any more basic if they tried.

I left the creation of spreadsheet studies quite a few years ago in favour of ACSIL studies due to flexibility and speed, so I'm returning to the spreadsheets after a long absence. I took the time to learn some ACSIL as I love the platform and the support is excellent. Of course I'd love to have a proper paid support line/option but that's just a wish list.

Back to your reply. I've read all the associated material along with "https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/SpreadsheetTradingTestProcedure.php" but as mentioned there are still outcomes that don't seem to follow study guides.

Are you using spreadsheets at an intermediate, or advanced level of complexity for testing or trading?

John (SC), thank you for your reply. I'm hoping the example is a little more complex that a a simple SMA Stop and Reverse. Any thoughts re the location of other examples?

Many thanks

Paul

IMO, the documentation is rather complete. But it's mostly text, not videos.

This is more overwhelming than it is limited:

You can always search for specific things, and info in this thread is helpful with searches:

I'm not an ACSIL programmer so I use spreadsheet studies extensively. Some that I've built for clients are very complex.
I have some examples on my website, the most complex is probably this one:

Hi Tom,

I'm not sure what happened there but my reply was lost. I probably forgot to submit so thank you for your comments to which I agree entirely.

Just to clarify:

The Sierra documentation is exhaustive and incredibly detailed and I'm completely in awe of the lead programmers. I've probably been through a dozen platforms over the last few decades starting with Signal Writer and nothing I have come across compares to Sierra.

Yes, it can be incredibly complex and I'm often bewildered by the enormous number of parameters and settings.

Yes, it would be great to have a premium "paid for" support line for emergency assistance but all in all support is extremely helpful, as is the forum.

:-)

I'm not a programmer but I can program - certainly well enough to put most of my ideas into ASCIL. If not, then there are some very helpful paid for services. I've also contributed to the costs of some of Sierra's tools in the past.

My comment was simply that it would be useful to have a few more video's as a picture paints a thousand words - hence I'm sure the success of youtube.

Thank you again for the assistance and your business info. Will definately have a look.

Many thanks
