I use Sierra chart on a Mac (through crossover) and I want to be able to download chart books from non-mac users.

I try to do it but my Mac says "The system does not have an application to open said documents"

Has anyone dealt with this before?

It sounds like you are trying to open the Chartbook by double-clicking on it and expecting it to open in Sierra Chart, like you would for a Word document, or other file types. Sierra Chart is NOT setup to open in that method. You need to open Sierra Chart and then open the Chartbook from the File menu (File >> Open Chartbook).

I just tried to open them from Sierra as you described- this isn't working either.

The files for Sierra chart are being sent from another user via "discord" (our chat room) and then I download them by clicking on them and they download into my "downloads" on my Mac. They still do not appear in Sierra chart file >> open chart book.

The Chartbooks need to be in the Data folder that is located under the main Sierra Chart installation folder. So you would need to move them from your Download folder to the Data folder.

Can you not open a finder window on Mac that shows where Sierra Chart is located and shows all the folders within Sierra Chart? When SC folder view is expanded you will see multiple subfolders and that chart book file needs to go in the data folder.since you have SC installed using Crossover you may need to go to the Crossover website and see how to put files in an application installed using Crossover.

We do not know how to access the files on a Mac, and particularly not when using Crossover. As 58LesPaul notes above, you need to be able to put the Chartbook into the 'data' folder that is under the main Sierra Chart folder. You would need to figure out how to do that.

Open up the Crossover App on your Mac. Under Bottles, highlight the Sierra Chart bottle, right click on Sierra Chart. Then click on Open Y: Drive (If Sierra Chart installed on the Y: Drive, otherwise may be C: Drive). A Finder Window opens for drive_y or drive_c. Double click on the Sierra Chart directory in the Finder window. Double click on the Data directory. Now go to the Finder menu bar at the top of the Mac screen. Click File then New Finder Window. Click on the Downloads directory on the left hand side of the screen. Now copy or drag your Non-Mac User Chartbook file to the Data directory of the other open Finder Window. Your Chartbook should now appear in Sierra Chart.

Are you trying to use a Chart from a 3rd party source? Do you have other Charts that are not blank and that you can add Studies to?

Open Sierra Chart. Go to the Global Settings Menu at the top of the application. Click Data/Trade Service Settings. Under Service / Current Selected Service (List), pick which Data Feed you are using from the drop down list. Default is SC Data - All Services. Then click Apply All. Then OK.

Next: Click Control B. An Open Chartbook Window should appear. What File Names are listed? You should have at least 2 File Names listed: ChatbookExample.cht and ExampleChartbook. Is your 3rd party Chart listed?

Open ChartbookExample.cht. It should be a Daily EURUSD chart. Right click on the Chart. Click Studies. Pick the 3nd one AC/DC Histogram. You should now have a EURUSD chart with 1 study.

I Tried all of this and it is still showing up blank, it is because I am on a Mac I am having this issue??
I am also using a trail version and if I can't get this to work in time I don't know if I should get the service

Here it is:

Open finder on Mac and click on "go" (top menu bar will then drop down)

Click "home"

click "Sierra chart"

click "data"

You need to drag your files into that data folder. Then you should be able to access those charts/files on Sierra chart.
