Trying to update on Win8, from: Help >> Download Current Version , but result in the following Error Message:

Windows protected your PC
Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised application from starting. Running this application might put your PC at risk.
More info

Q: What's the problem?

----

It also seem that using this procedure is attempting to create a new user account.

IDK enough about this, but it's not normal for SW to create new accounts in this way.
Can someone please explain what is gong on, and why SC is trying to create the new
"Logon Session" account: S-1-5-5-0-106685 .

According to MS info:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/identity/security-identifiers-in-windows

S-1-5-5-X-Y Logon Session: A logon session. The X and Y values for these SIDs are different for each session.

It seem that the problem is that the SC app is not signed by MicroSoft.

So even if you have a lax security policy like below, it doesn't allow you through:

MachinePolicy : Undefined
UserPolicy : Undefined
Process : Undefined
CurrentUser : Bypass
LocalMachine : Bypass
(In all respect, it's comforting to know that Windows actually is able to offer a first line of defense, although most users would run all kind of krap anyway.)

So you need to look (click on) under info in the SmartScreen window and select Run Anyway.

You are correct, the problem is that we do not have the certificate yet for the installation. We are working on this, but it has been a much longer process than we thought it would be.

Anyway, the software is safe. As you found, the way around it is to allow the software to run anyway.
