Hi there!

I did some searching and looking around but couldnt figure out how to do this. I want to be able to have the horizontal lines visible only on the timeframes of my choosing, rectangles as well. As an example I don't want my 1 minute support resitance lines to show on a 1h chart as that will only clutter up the chart. I'm sure there must be a way to do that?

Is there also a way to automatically extend rectangles drawn to the right? It gets cumbersome to always having to manually extend them everytime.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of any trading app that can isolate trendlines to specific time frames, but it is a very good idea.

Have you tried using the extending rectangle tool?

Yes I use the extended rectangle tool, just wondering if there is an option of having it auto extend everytime. Not the biggest issue if there isnt though.

Bigger issue would be if you cant select which timeframes to show lines on as things get cluttered up real fast otherwise when doing a top down analysis. I always thought that would be fairly standard for all platforms. But then again i'v mostly used MT4 where it's available. Do hope that is an option to do with Sierra, and if it isnt if it can be implemented as it is highly useful.

i'm new to SC but maybe Tool Config's can help to to achieve this.

You can also set a TC as a default for a chart.

A drawing can be hidden, so if you maybe you can add 1 min lines to a specific TC.

Thanks for the tip CT. I'v previously tried and looked around the hide function etc but from what I can see you cant specify it to show on any particular timeframe.

Be great if a Sierra chart representative could clarify what the status is.

Sierra Chart does not support limiting Chart Drawings to specific time frames per bar and we do not foresee ever adding this capability.

You need to use the Extending Rectangle tool.

That seems strange in my mind though as it's quite a useful/necessary tool when you do top down analysis from the daily down to 1min and continue to reference higher timeframe charts. Without it things turn into quite the mess. So if possible I would urge you guys to take a second look if its possible to implement, I'm positive i'm not the only one who would like to see that. I also know a fair few traders where not having an option like that would immediately make a platform like Sierra a no go.

Refering to not being able to choose which timeframe to view lines on that is, the auto extended rectangles is not that big of a deal.

The simple solution to this is to use different charts for the different time frames that you want to view and the chart drawings associated with those.

That sounds in theory good, but in practice when you look at all the major timeframes from weekly down to 1 minute then it becomes to many different charts to reasonable keep track of, so having them all on one chart is really the only way to handle it.

Maybe try drawing different colored lines for each time frame and/or different thicknesses. I do that sometimes so I know where the line is coming from and I can switch to it quickly to see it again as I drew it.

You could also try using two charts, e.g. one for hourly time frames and above and one for less than hourly. Then your big chart won't be covered in a bunch of tiny lines.

There have not been any changes to deleting/hiding drawings based on timeframe since this thread was originally posted.

One way around this is using the "copy chart drawings" feature in advanced settings 2: Copying Chart Drawings from Other Charts Automatically

Then you make a chart on the daily (chart 1), hourly (chart 2), minute (chart 3) etc and then you link chart 3 to chart 1 and 2 and chart 2 to chart 1. Now when you make a line on the daily, you'll see it flow down to hourly and minute. A line made on the minute chart won't show up on daily or hourly.
