Hi,

yesterday i update Sierra Chart to the latest stable version 2120, and when it started it hangs with an error

I'm running Manjaro 20 (x86_64 Linux 5.6.16-1-MANJARO) with PlayOnLinux and wine.

For latest stable version 2120 it gives me this issue:
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 64-bit code (0x00007fbeeb6c3e40).

Same problem running Linux Mint 19 and Wine 4.0.3

Tried with 20 last week and it was intermittent.

Tried with latest today and it was consistently failing.

Reverted to 2109 which works consistently.

If anyone wants log details, let me know.

I've been testing with a new installation of Manjaro 20 from scratch.

Versions tested with issues : 2118; 2120; 2122; 2123 (new today's release)

Then i've tried 2115 and it's working.
So, from version 2116 onwards , it fails.

We have no idea why there is a problem on Wine. It must be a Wine issue.

I'd say its an interaction.

So I upgraded Wine to 5.0.1 from 4.0.3

Installed 2124 and it locked up. So I reverted to 2109 & just copied in the 64.exe and 64.dll and it was ok ... see trace.

Then I copied in the acs_source folder & it crashed ... repeat start and crashed again ... see trace

Replaced the folder from 2109 and still crashed ... huh .. thats a surprise

All the way back to 2109 and ok

Again replaced the two files and shows 2124 and ok. I guess, if you can't see a SC issue we'll stick with versions under 2116. I'm happy with 2109.

Further to that. Although, without the ACS_Source folder SC doesn't generate an immediate crash, it does crash within 10-20 minutes.

So no need to test it on Monday unless Admin has a specific desired test.

see the same issue with latest version. Copying SierraChart_64.exe/dll from version 2115 works for now.

were there some graphics enhancements, or some new changes introduced after 2115 (or recent versions).? thanks for taking a look.

We do not know what the problem is and it is not something we can help with. Also there is no relevancy to the ACS_Source folder. That makes no sense.

Maybe ... seemed stunningly bizarre to me too. But I went to a lot of trouble to help you find the issues with a move to Wine 5 and some experiments which leave me with at least faith in science:

In the philosophy of science, falsifiability or refutability is the capacity for a statement, theory or hypothesis to be contradicted by an event with parts that are separately technologically possible, but which can be together impossible.

However I will continue to experiment. I'll start with a 100% clean 2124 experiment in case the interaction is with something left over from past SC installs.

2125 still bugs out ... will test new versions in the hope that we get a new one that will work again.

Can any Linux users report success with a Sierra Chart version after 2115? If so, what are you using to support it?

Thanks

I am successfully running 2125 on Arch. Never had problems with any version since 2115. Current WINE version is 5.11 staging, which I have been using, because there are, and always have been for me, some issues with the window decorations with the stable version.

I've had a couple issues, one seems to be resolved, the other is still being tested. The first issue is SC hangs on starts...no error just hangs and I have to force quite. The second is a CPU exception on exit.

The CPU exception has not happened yet since updating to 2128 on Wine and my Windows 10 test system is working now with the example chart file that had CPU exceptions 100% of the time prior to 2128.
OpenGL Exception/Stability Issues

For Wine and the hang on startup issue, tonight I set the winecfg to Windows 7 in the application area (it was previously set to windows 10) and it seems to have helped. Further testing this week. Also, sierrachart_64.exe is added to the applications under winecfg default settings.

Update...hang on start still happening.

SC 2128 64 bit
Wine 5.11 development set to Windows 7 in winecfg
Mint Linux 19.3
Kernel 5.4.0-39 generic
OpenGL
i7-950 processor (quite old 5 core 3 gigahertz)
AMD video card (Radeon HD 7730/8730)
Dual Monitors
First connection: Denali data with SC/TT routing
Second connection: Denali data with Rythmic routing
