Hi,
I downloaded the latest version and Sierra Charts does not open. When I click the SC icon, nothing happens nor the .exe file

Go to the folder where Sierra Chart is installed (C:\SierraChart, is the default) and look for the file named "SierraChart_64". This is an executable file (.exe). Try double clicking to start the program from that file directly.

If that does not work, then also try the file named "SierraChart", which is the 32-bit version of the application.

Let us know what happens.

Hello Sierra Charts,

Sierra Charts has crashed my system. I suspect it's the ongoing OpenGL core code faults creating these memory allocation failures. Now I can't open Sierra charts on my system at all. Not the icon, not the "SierraChart_64" application in the sierra chart folder. Nor does the the 32 bit application open.

So what should I do first?

Thanks

First thing to do is to check the Windows Task Manager and see if any Sierra Chart processes are already running. If they are, terminate those but this would be a very unusual condition to have Sierra Chart running but not visible. And would be a Windows issue if this is true.

Then start Sierra Chart again and let us know exactly what is happening. Are you getting nothing at all? Are you getting the Login screen, but nothing after that?

If you are seeing nothing at all after you try and start Sierra Chart, then we need you to look in the Task Manager to see if the Sierra Chart process is running. Let us know if you can get to this point.

Your conclusion in post #4 could not be correct if you are not using OpenGL. And if there is stability problems when using OpenGL, the underlying problem is going to be with the system. The memory allocation failures are due to your system. Not Sierra Chart.

Since downloading the latest version (3/18/21) and upgrading to Package 5, my Sierra Charts cannot startup from my desktop icon. Never had this problem in the 8+ years that I've been using SC. I checked my Task Manager and no Sierra chart processes are running. I tried starting up from my SC folder directly (Sierra Chart_64) but still not working. What next?

What is the brand of the video adapter you are using? And are you using the OpenGL option?

Video adapter brand - Intel (R) Iris (R) Plus Graphics
OpenGL Version - 4.6

I am not tech savvy, so it took me 2 hours to find that info. Appreciate your patience.

We think the issue is OpenGL related. We are going to put out a new release in about 20 minutes which we think has a good chance of resolving the issue. This will be version 2243. Update instructions:
Software Download: Fast Update

It is the prerelease. It will be available in about 20 minutes.

2243 is now released. Since you cannot start Sierra Chart, install it with this installer:
https://download2.sierrachart.com/downloads/SierraChartFileDownloader.exe

However, make sure you install the "Prerelease". So you need to select on the installer: "Prerelease".

Used the link to install "Prerelease Version" but still SC does not open. I rechecked Task Manager, no SC processes running. I tried double clicking Sierra Chart_64 directly from folder, still SC does not open.

Normally after installing an SC version, it automatically opens after hitting "Close" on installer, but nothing happened.

Anything else you can suggest?

User contacted. It was the Trend Micro security software blocking Sierra Chart for an unknown reason. Once that program was disabled, Sierra Chart would start.

One thing we remembered we may not have done before ending the call:

We renamed the Sierra4.config file to Sierra4.config.bak. If you see that file in your Sierra Chart installation folder, then exit from Sierra Chart and then delete the Sierra4.config file and then rename Sierra4.config.bak to Sierra4.config
