all the time. i read the grid and scaling instructions and I though ti had it fixe dbut it will stay constant and then
i start getting 3 constant height grids and then a very small grid then 3 constant grids and a small grid.

i have interactive scale mode checked and scale range cosntant range.

For your scale, you need to use a Constant Range or a User Defined Range. With the Constant Range, if you really do not want the scale to move at all, then you will want to ensure that the option for Constant Range Scale Mode is set to Manual. Refer to the setting here:
Chart Scale and Scale Adjusting: Constant Range Scale Modes >> Manual Mode

As to the grid, it sounds like you have a secondary grid increment defined. If you want your horizontal grid to be the same line types at every level, then be sure that the option in Scale Settings for Number of Increments for Secondary Grid is set to 0. Refer to the information here:
Chart Scale and Scale Adjusting: Number of Increments for Secondary Grid (Scale Settings)
