I understand this is a mandatory update from the version I was using but I'm finding this forced update very painful.

If I keep my OpenGL on setting then I can only load my chartbook if I delete all data and download and even then it refuses to load the next time I start Sierra.

If I turn off OpenGL I can then load my chartbook but obviously the CPU usage is higher.

I have also tried using the backup Sierra3.cfg file to see if that helps but no joy.

I'm guessing my issue will be the fact that my chartbook was made with a previous version of Sierra and the only way I'll fix this is if I save all studies as a template and then load them in new charts but again that is rather drastic, painful and time consuming as you have to manually check all cross-chart references

For anyone else in the same boat,

I fixed this with a fresh installation of Sierra and copied over my settings from the previous install.
I wish that was more recommended as a troubleshooting strategy here

This does not make any sense and we do not recommend this procedure:
I can only load my chartbook if I delete all data and download

We do not see how this has any relevancy unless it is related to what is documented here:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.16 - What to do if Sierra Chart is in a frozen state for an extended time due to extended high CPU usage caused by an automatically or m

I'm guessing my issue will be the fact that my chartbook was made with a previous version of Sierra
No, this is definitely definitely not the case at all. This is definitely not the problem.

I fixed this with a fresh installation of Sierra and copied over my settings from the previous install.
We do not know why this would make any difference. It does not make sense to us and we would not have recommended that.

We do not see how using OpenGL is related to the problem you are describing. It really sounds like a condition where there are some studies which are taking a long time to calculate. Refer to this subsection:

I don’t understand it either.

Before the fresh install two of my charts had studies that would not finish calculating.

After the fresh install it is as smooth as silk and the total Sierra cpu is under 2%
