[Sticky] - Webbased Trading and Direct User Creation of Simulated Accounts to be Released this Week

[2019-12-17 22:38:56]
Sierra Chart Engineering - Posts: 81357 | Ending Date: 2020-06-09
We will be releasing web-based trading for our TT based order routing, and our trading simulator services this week. We will also be providing the capability for users to create their own trading accounts on the trading simulator services.

You will be able to also create ones based on templates from particular educators/evaluators. Which will also have access to your simulated trading activity both live and historically. So you will be able to share your simulated trading account with those trading educators/evaluators.

The next step will be basic market data support on the web-based trading panel.

This is all part of our complete and unified model for providing services to our users. As you can see, our users continue to suffer problems with various external services including Rithmic, Transact, Gain Capital, CTS and others.

As we were doing final testing, we decided that the applying of the price multiplier for display purposes and for order price input should be done on the server side for safety and reliability reasons. So we are delaying the release of the web-based trading panel until this is implemented. This will not take long.

We want to give an update regarding web-based trading, the work to adjust the prices for display purposes and for order price input, has been done. We may not finish with testing today but we will do it tomorrow for sure. So it should be ready before Christmas.

We completed testing of the web-based trading panel with the price multiplier being applied on the server side and everything is working properly. We expect to release this in the afternoon on December 24, 2019.

Once again, market data is not supported but we see the importance of that and that will come as soon as possible.

Here is a screenshot showing the trade panel with a black background.

Also at this time spreads and options order entry are not supported through this trading panel. However, you can see those orders and cancel them.

We are going to be releasing the web-based trading panel for a few users. This is the link to get to it:
https://www.sierrachart.com/UserControlPanel.php?page=TradeAccountDataAndOrderEntry

You will have to login to get to this trading panel even if you are already logged into this website. So there is always a secondary login required.

You will notice a drop down list at the top named Servers where you can select the server to connect to. Currently only Server 4 Live will be available. This is our backup server and gradually we will be listing the other servers as those servers are updated to handle the web-based trading.

This is not a server that you normally should connect to within Sierra Chart so you are not going to see any server-side held child orders as part of a bracket order, show up on the trading web page until such time they are submitted to the exchange.

You will need to select the server and then the connection to that server will be made. You can view your working orders, and positions and account balances. In the Order Entry form section you can choose the symbol to trade by first selecting exchange, the underlying symbol and then the specific contract month. Only outright futures contracts can be traded at this time.

Just briefly tested the web-based interface. Works great and orders show up immediately. For me the most important function is to flatten out of a position for backup reasons and I didn't find a "flatten" button. Will this only appear when you have a working position? Like the "cancel" button for an order?

We need to add flatten functionality, but this also needs to consider the quantity of outstanding market orders of the same side to make sure there is only a single flatten operation which can occur.

Yes. Same as when I hit flatten on the Sierra DOM. This could also be a button in the open positions table. Would be highly benefical to get out of a position with the least thinking and mouse clicks possible.

Thanks guys. This webbased trading adds a lot of value to your routing solution.

Yes it will be a flatten button with each position. And most importantly we do plan to add market data support. Hopefully we can do that and avoid the two connection limit for CME data when using the nonprofessional exchange fees being that we just got are going to provide periodic updating quotes. Initially we will start with delayed data.

Sounds good for the flatten button. Not sure if delayed data makes sense for oder management. Hopefully you can find a way to have live quotes even if they are pulled on request.

Yes of course it does not make sense, and you should tell that to the CME. You can see how the CME rules, endanger order placement. It's just simply plain nuts. It's nuts and it's insane and it's just plain ludicrous. This market data does not belong to the exchange. The market data is created by the traders and to be turning right around and charging them for it is just totally and completely insane.

Now of course we can provide real-time data but potentially it can be considered against the two connection limit.

Yeah it may be crazy but it wont make sense to go nuts about it. The CME is the marketplace and they make their rules. I don't think they will change this anytime soon.

The solution should be quiet simple. If a user has two active connections and wants to establish a third one via the web-based panel, just drop one connection. Maybe with a prompt like Rithmic is doing it.

Also I think that this situation should be rather rare as I suppose most will only have one connection at a time and all the other should be fine with dropping one of the two active.

Anyways for my use case it's more important to have a flatten functionality. Market data is nice to have but there are a lot of other data sources to use when on the go or in case of emergency like internet or power issues.

This new ability to trade via the web is great, but a "Flatten" button is also what I am looking for. It would be great to have the ability to "Flatten" based on a single instrument/symbol and also the ability to flatten all instruments/symbols in a single click.

but it wont make sense to go nuts about it.
The problem is they are actually creating the current situation. They are creating a situation which is massively frustrating and burdensome for us and for users. Our support board is loaded with questions every single day related to market data policies. So essentially they are creating a situation which can be described as " nuts". If we do not say something that would be a problem in itself. We have to.

And as far as changing things, that is going to be done by people like us, who are leaders and innovators, and work to make things better and more efficient. But this is going to require a new exchange. The CME is a highly inefficient operation costing traders too much. Way too much. That is why we embrace efforts like the Small Exchange which is still undergoing CFTC approval.

We do not like to drop connections and that is not how everything is designed. You will get a notice that the connection limit is exceeded, and you can choose an option to use delayed data.

We will try to get the Flatten functionality out for the web-based trading in a couple of days.

One thing we want to point out is there is no connection limiting for trading connections. You can have as many trading connections as you want when using the web-based trading panel. You will never have a problem accessing the web-based trading panel due to connection limits.

And the web-based trading panel is also functional even if your Sierra Chart usage time has expired.

The connection limiting is only for nonprofessional CME group data access.

You say we should not go nuts about CME market data policy but we waste so much god damn time on this and there is such massive frustration with users over this. It is a situation which can only be considered "nuts".

We are wasting more time this evening over this. It is completely insane and "nuts" and we are not going to shut up about it.

Just an update here. We have updated all of our Sierra Chart order routing instances for TT to be able to handle web-based trading and will be releasing access to those servers in the coming days.

We also improved trade activity queries dramatically. The processing time has been reduced about 99%. These queries are used for the serving of historical order fills.

We just want to put out a quick comment that a user was asking us about this past week. They wanted to know how they can have a secondary means viewing their Positions and Orders and ensuring that what they see in Sierra Chart is correct. This was not exactly how they expressed it. But in effect this is what they were asking about.

They were mentioning CQG and how there is the CQG Web trader:
http://ampclearing.com/webtrader.html

And they view this as a secondary means to get visibility into their account. Our understanding is that this uses the very same CQG Web API that Sierra Chart uses. So it is no better than what you see in Sierra Chart.

If there is any question about what you see in Sierra Chart when using CQG just reconnect to the data feed as an easy means to guarantee a refresh of orders and positions:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/FileMenu.html#ProcedureToReconnect

Now our web-based trading panel is connected to the Sierra Chart order service which use a FIX connection to TT. There are a total of six servers available that you can use and each has its own independent connection to TT. Those FIX connections process all the orders on your account. And today we set Server 4, the backup server, to refresh the orders table and positions table at the end of the day (17:20). This is not needed but is just another layer of ensuring that the state that it has, exactly matches TT at the end of the day.

The reason we do not do this with other servers is because if at the time we are requesting orders and positions and they are not available from TT, then we have the risk of them getting cleared. Whether they get cleared or not, depends upon the details surrounding why they were not returned.

Although all of the other servers refresh their Orders and Positions state from TT on Sunday.

So using our web-based trading panel, you can check any of the servers, and get a clear view of your orders and positions as provided by TT.

Is the web-based trading restricted to more or less manual trading or can you run automated strategies as well?

No you can only do manual trading. For automated trading using a websocket connection and JSON messages you need to use the DTC protocol server. Refer to:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/DTCServer.php

We are going to add later today a new websocket section to that page with additional details.

The price in the order fills (example ES) seems to be not exactly calculated somehow.

See attached file of one order with only 1 lot (so no calculation needed).

I sold at 3298.50
