"I am trading oil futures on Sierra chart. I have been placing bracket orders. On Friday and today when I have hit the Flatten button I have found that the 2 contingent orders are removed but the open order remains without any protective stops. I have to select the Flatten button again to truly flatten my positions"

Thanks for your response. It does look like a margin related issue. The Trading Log confirms that the the initial margin was USD2000 and then an additional USD2000 was associated with the Flatten request timing. This exceeded the account size.

I cannot equate the referenced solution information to what was happening. Here is an example of the scenarios that occurred: I had a trade position of +2 with the Stops 10 ticks below. I hit the Flatten button when the price went 5 ticks against me. The Stop and Target working orders were removed but the +2 position was left open. As the price continued down I saw that the position was still open and no longer protected so I hit the flatten button again which closed the open position.

Does this mean that the Flatten process needs twice the margin in the account?

We just realized that section we linked to does not contain the up-to-date solution. The up-to-date solution is to enable this option:
Global Trade Settings Windows: Hold Market Order Until Pending Cancel Orders Are Confirmed (Global Settings >> General Trade Settings >> General)

And in regards to your question, you need to ask your trading service about that.
