Hi ,

Pls help me understand the mechanics of data provision. I do use very long term volume profiles ( 3 years) and tick data is important to me.

So - am i correct ? ( Gain is my real time data provider) :

1. Gain gives me real time data, and Sierra gives me all the data prior to this very moment. So for example , at weekeneds, I can delete and download without even being connected to GAIN , and Sierra will provide all the data? Correct ?

2. At rollovers, when i press the 'perform rollover ' button, data starts being downloaded - and it is all coming from Gain ? Say I press rollover button at 12.00 midday Thursday, and Gain gives me that new contract data from the very beginning of Thursday ( after wednesday settlement ) and sierra provides the rest - or Gain provides all 3 years back of data? ( I tried rolling over at weekend but sierra did not provide the data )

3. Tha data that I accumulate by never ever switching my computer off, is all tick data, so very good quality. Is my charting using this data , or every time say i update new version of sierra and restart it, it loads the 3 years worth of minute data from Sierra's own servers ? Is there a way I can make charting use locally stored data rarther than download less accurate data from Sierra server?

Thank you very much

and tick data is important to me.
In this case use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed:
Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed

1. No you cannot access the historical data without being connected to the Gain Capital server which may not be available on the weekend. Sierra Chart does maintain historical data but it is only built from the gain capital data feed and it is not going to be as accurate and complete as to what we have ourselves with our own data feed.

2, 3. You really must use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed. This is your only assurance of getting proper quality data. We cannot take our time with these questions. Our only answer is going to be to use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed. We are not going to get exhausted answering these kinds of questions.

And we really recommend using this order routing service as well:
Sierra Chart / Trading Technologies Futures Order Routing Service

When using this service you are always going to have access to the trading server over the weekend.

Hi,

Thanks for the above answers! One last thing please - see if I get this correct:

1. [Sierra Chart does maintain historical data but it is only built from the gain capital data]

- Although Sierra Chart historical data service is part of my package 5, there is only a limited number of times i can access it, so that is why I could not roll over at the weekend?

Or further more - Sierra needs access to Gain first, to see what history is already provided, to be able to 'top-up ' the rest with its own data ?

MAny thanks

You are not using the Sierra Chart Historical Data service when using Gain Capital. You are accessing separate historical data maintained for that service by us from their data feed. And that data is not accessible when you cannot connect to the Gain Capital server.

This is one reason we have developed this new service:
