over symbol limit

while loading data for an additional chart with an additional symbol from the SC Real-Time Data Feed I received a message "over the symbol limit of 100 symbols"

I am aware of the 100 symbol limit and that I can extended by subscribing for larger number of symbols

My question is whether the Symbol Limit is for the number of Unique Symbols or for the Total Number of symbols ?

In my case the Number of Unique Symbols streamed at the same time is nowhere near 100 - probably about 40. However for some symbols I have many charts opened for the SAME symbol. In the case of the same Symbol opened/used in many charts at the same time I would assume that SC streams the symbol ONLY ONCE from the SC Data Feed and de-multiplexes it internally to multiple charts - so does that count as "having used some of my symbol allowance" or it is counted a 1 symbol ?

So which of the above is causing the Over the Symbol Limit condition?

It is unique symbols. It couldn't be based on the same symbol being open multiple times within Sierra Chart. Refer to:

very well, thank you for that, this is what I thought as well.

but then there is an issue here - at the moment I have about 30 UNIQUE symbols opened and streaming from the SC Data Feed from two SC Instances on two separate laptops. And I started getting "over symbol limit" I guess when approached 30 or so symbols. Can you please check inside the logs of your Market Data infrastructure what is going on for my connection - it is active right now and stays active Mon-Fri 24x7 so you should see me connected and check in the logs when and why I am getting "over symbol limit" and as a result of that SC can download ONLY historical data but NOT real-time data from the SC Data Feed

One of your connections has definitely subscribed to 100 symbols. This is what we are clearly seeing. Another connection is tracking 11 symbols.

The status bar is going to give an indication of this:

I am with you Sir, yes for one of the SC instances the ST is 12 (ST:12) and that's what I was expecting. For the other though, where in reality I have only about 8 UNIQUE symbols the ST shows 289 - wow that's shocking

ps: the SC instance with ST:289 connections has much more recent version of SC which is v.1875

(my god guys, you have thought about everything, including convenient way to track the number of subscribed symbol - yet another demonstration how well SC is designed)

I have made some progress with the investigation on my side - problem solved (however there may be some food for thought)

I have chart books with gazzilion of charts but still for a very small number of unique symbols - I connected the new SC instance to the SC Data Feed (only) ie not IB data feed with SC Data support and loaded my chart books still with the old IB symbols. Naturally no data has been downloaded/received that way (and hence the subscription number should have been zero)

then I started updating the charts one by one with the SC Data Feed symbols and at some point I ran into the "over the symbol limit" error message

when after your suggestion I looked at ST: it was ST:300 - shocking because even though there are gazzilion charts (probably close to 300 ....) I still had about 5 unique symbols

then I restarted SC and reloaded the chartbooks now all having the Symbols for the SC Data Feed (not IB) - and ST:5 which is inline with my expectations

so problem solved on my side but it may be useful for you to look into the root cause

What we have to do is not have an invalid symbol count towards the symbol limit. That's not necessarily so straightforward but we will work on that.
