Confusing Uptick Vol Def

I do not understand the difference between Uptick Vol and Ask Vol, so I was wondering if you could help me with that. Your website says that "Uptick volume is the volume of trades that occurred at a higher price than before" which suggests to me that it has a value that is >= to the Ask Vol but never lower since all of the Ask Vol trades occur at market and not above. I also read somewhere online that Uptick Vol dates back to the days when highly-granular real-time Ask Vol data was harder to come by and therefore, it is less accurate than Ask Vol since it is just an approximation. Do you agree with that? All I'm trying to do is figure out whether I can gain something by tracking the Uptick Vol in addition to the Ask Vol. Thank you. |

Yes, but only if the Ask Vol is from a source where it is accurately reported, like the SC Data Feed.Not all data feeds report Ask Vol accurately. All I'm trying to do is figure out whether I can gain something by tracking the Uptick Vol in addition to the Ask Vol.
If the data source accurately reports Ask Vol, there is little to gain by also tracking Uptick Vol.If the data source does not accurately report Ask Vol, it might be better to track Uptick Vol instead. |

I plan to use your data feed on my new account at the beginning of next year but in the meantime, I'm subscribed to the CQG data feed which perhaps is the next best thing I believe. Therefore, would you recommend that I continue to use Ask Vol or that I switch to Uptick Vol? Thanks.
