I have read through the Help section on the histoircal data charts and I am confused. I have performed numerous analyses of various commodities using the historical charts and I want to start trading based on one of the analyses. The technical anlysis that I'm using on the chart tells me when to buy or sell. However, the daily charts seem not to be updated immediately (I'm not sure when the NQ daily chart updates, for example), and if I do not have an update right after close that I can use ON THE HISTORICAL CHART, then I have no buy/sell signal. I could switch to the Intraday and use a daily time period, but the analysis doesn;t yield the same results there, so I want to use the historical chart. What I need to be able to do is somehow have today's data appearing in real time as a new column on the far right on the historical chart. If the HELP section instructs me as to how to do that, I missed it somewhere.

What is the symbol of the chart and what Data or Trading service are you using Sierra Chart with?

In general Historical Daily charts will update unless the symbol does not provide real-time data.

Your questions: What is a symbol of the chart and what Data or Trading service are you using Sierra Chart with?

I am using NQ, YM, RJ, ES, and CL. Is that what you were looking for?

As for what data service I am using, I'm not sure what that means. I trade through Cannon Trading using OEC trader. But I'm not aware of impoting data from them. I just pull up a Sierra Chart for data and go from there. Maybe I'm importing data and don;ty know it. How would I find out?

So when I pull up the hisorical chart CL#.dly right now at 11:00 a.m., Oct. 28, there is nothing there on the 28th. The last data there is for the 25th. That's alwayas the way it is. Are you saying it;s possible to pull up real-time data on the historical charts?

You are using Continuous Futures Contract symbols of those are not recognized by the OEC real-time data feed.

You can enter the corresponding OEC symbol and should also be aware of how those particular Continuous Futures Contracts symbols work. This is all explained here:

I have read through the links provided but I still have no idea what alternatives to use.m Here's what I am trying to do:

First, I have been doing analysis on various commodities, such as CL, NQ, etc., using my historical charts. I use CL#, NQ#, etc. for the analysis. I have found some long-term trends using technical analysis I want to trade on. However, those charts do not seem to update quickly enough at the end of a trading day for me to place a trade at the end of the day based on the chart's results. So if, for example, I were trading simply based on an exponential moving average of 5 periods, I can't see whether the line at the end of today's trading goes up or down until the new historical data posts, which is not until some time after closing (I'm not sure when).

NOTE: I am not trading using the Sierra charts as a platform. I am getting data from Sierra and will be trading through cannon Trading separately, so it's irrelevant to me if the symbols match up.

What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way to look at my historical data chart, just as it is, with the technical indicators, just as they are, and attach on the current day's trading that the technical indicator will take into account. That way when the trading day closes I have an indicator that gives a buy or sell signal.

Or perhaps there is an easier way to do this. I find, though, that when I simply use the 1-day time frame on the intraday charts, the data is different and not an apples to apples comparison with my historical data analysis. If I can't translate my historical data analysis into actual trades, I'm not sure what the point of doing such analysis is.

Thanks.

The solution to this is documented here:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/SierraChartHistoricalData.html#Symbol_Differences

We also see you are running an older version of Sierra Chart. It is highly recommended to update when you can.
