Hello!

I am a long time user and just updated from Version 1761 to 1795 on Windows 10. My chartbook that loads in less than 2 minutes on V1761 took almost 8-10 minutes to load and Sierra Chart runs very slow and sluggish.
I am running the 64 bit version and do use spread sheets with 18 charts in the chartbook. What am I doing wrong?

We cannot know what the issue is in your case. We recommend that you refer to help topic 30:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often

Perhaps the issue could be with spreadsheets. There was a particular optimization which was removed until we can look it over further but most likely that is not going to make a significant difference. And you can get a sense of the calculation time of the spreadsheet by going to Spreadsheet >> Recalculate All Formulas.

Other than potentially spreadsheets, and we are not sure about that, overall the performance should be better since we continuously work on improving performance in Sierra Chart.

I deleted the two spreadsheet studies from the charts and the same chartbook loaded in less than 30 seconds on Version 1795. This confirms your thinking that the issue is with the spreadsheets.

We will be releasing today or tomorrow version 1799 restoring optimizations that were previously reverted in the Spreadsheet component.

Additionally:
There have been several changes in Internal Spreadsheet component since version 1761. The restored changes only cover half of what changed. But we have been focused on calculation efficiency since before version 1761, and have records that none of the committed changes made our backtest performance any slower. So perhaps your spreadsheet is doing something outside of what we have been optimizing.

Good improvement compared to V1795.

V1799 takes 4 minutes 50 seconds
V1761 takes 1 minute 5 seconds

to load a chartbook with: 2 spreadsheets, 15 charts, 2 quote spreadsheets, 1 DOM. Running on a 3/4 year old Windows 10 desktop with 4 monitors.

The spreadsheets have ordinary arithmetic formulas with no Trig functions. Will be glad to send them to you. I am quite happy to use V1761 for now.

THANKS!

Yes attach one of the Spreadsheets so we can test and see why there is such a significant difference.

We have tested your spreadsheet, it takes about 12 seconds to fully load the spreadsheet on both version 1761 and version 1799. The spreadsheet itself does not appear to be the issue.

But we can run another test using the associated Chartbook. Can you provide that for us.

We are curious though when you open this Spreadsheet alone on your system, how long does it take to load? If it only takes us 12 seconds, it should be similar for you. If not, we recommend faster hardware.

I am getting similar results, under 30 seconds to load JUST the spreadsheet on version 1761 and 1799.

Issue appears to be with loading of actual data.

Will send the Chartbook soon.

Thanks!

It is not likely we would notice the difference ourselves with chart data loading times. It would be extremely unlikely anything has changed with that. Anyway do send the Chartbook and we will test.

Agree with the hardware upgrade recommendation.

With optimization back in 1799 and faster hardware. My application should work fine.

Will let you know, If there are any issues then.

THANKS!

Just updated to Version 1809. My Sierra application runs faster than Version 1761 now on the same hardware.
THANKS! for your very fine work in adding so many new features yet keeping the system fast and robust.

Good but not sure what we did that helped. There was not anything done related to chart data loading.

Sierra Chart runs very slow and sluggish.
But this was related to GDI geometric pens which were used in cases where they should not have been.
