Alert Popup window not visible

Alert Manager > Time Alerts

I have several setup. The sound and the alert log are both working properly, but the Popup text box advising of the alert is not visible.

Each alert has been setup with the option ticked for 'show alert popup when triggered'

On v1785.

I have had this working when running SC on another machine with a lower version number.

Is there some reset function in case the alert window is positioned off screen as a result of copying the files from one machine to another where maybe the screen resolutions are different between the two setups?

This can be resolved with Window >> Reset Windows and we will make sure the documentation explains this.

Sorry, I should have said that I had already tried that.

Performing Windows >> Reset Windows just brings up the Message Log with no additional entry in the log.

I have tried just opening SC (not opening a Chartbook or Chart) and creating a Time based alert - again the sound of the alert occurs as does an entry in the Alert Log, but the Popup alert text window does not appear.

I then created an new Time Alert and selected for it to Popup an alert text as well as Popup the Alert Log. in this case the Alert Log opened up at the designated time but still the Popup Alert text window did not.

As I said in the first message, I copied over the 8 files you specify from another SC installation on another machine - is it possible one of these files is corrupted preventing the Alert Popups from working? Eg the screen resolution of the other machine could be different and therefore where I positioned the Alert Popups to appear on that screen may not be compatible with the new screen resolution - just a thought.

Well we are going to do some changes to that alert dialog and maybe that will resolve the problem. We are not able to reproduce the issue. Allow about two weeks.

In version v1825 this still does not seem to be working correctly.

When a time alert triggers it now brings up the Alert Log window (see attached Alert1) even though the time alert is configured to show the Popup window and not the Log window (see attached Alert2).

Thanks

That window you see is the new Alert popup log for these types of alerts. It automatically clears them when you close it.

I don't understand why you have done this as now the 'popup' window is no different to the alert 'log' window in terms of presentation and information.

A 'popup' should be a smaller window that the main screen it is 'popping up' on. But now it needs to be a large window to read the information.

I used to have the former popup window present itself in the bottom RH corner (see Alert3 attached) to warn me 5 minutes before some news item I had set up as a Time alert. I would then leave the popup window in place until the news event had passed as a reminder.

But now as you can from Alert3 attached, that no useful information is displayed as the configuration of your new presentation means a small popup window presents no useful information.

Why can we not have the old format of a true pop window back, given the alert log window already gives usu the information and presentation format that the new popup window does.

I guess I don't understand why you changed it?

Thanks

Based on the screenshot you can reduce the size by 70%:

Anyway, we do know that the buttons should be replaced by menu commands and that is something we have in mind already. That will give you more viewing area of the main list.

You can also get another monitor to put the Alert pop-up window on.

And the new window presents less information and is always kept cleared when you close it.

I was just about to post an edit to my message to show you what it looked like under a previous version of SC and how I was using it to 'sit' on the trading screen as an alert (see attached Alert4).

As you can see the old 'popup' has no superfluous information like headers and menus.

I already use 3 screens, but having it in front of you on the trading screen means I am less likely to forget about the actual alert while trading.

Even if you had an option to hide the menu bar/items (like you have for normal charts) might help.

I am now on the latest version (1953) and it appears as though no changes have yet been made to this. I would be interested to see what improvement it makes when you remove the buttons and replace with menu commands.

Latest screen grab attached.

This is being worked on and we apologize for the delay. It should have been done by now. Just give us about another week or so.

Thanks, I can live with that.

I do however question the value in the name "Alert Popup Message" taking up valuable screen space (see attached - yellow highlight). We know what the dialogue box is, plus the Title Bar already tells us that, as well as the words "Time Alert" appearing to the very left of the actual alert message.

In addition it would be even better if we had the option of turning on/off the scroll bar (circled in red) like we can on other SC windows as a means of saving even more screen real estate.

Appreciate you considering the above.

Cheers

We apologize for this. This was an oversight. This will be removed.

We will see what we can do in regards to the scrollbar.

For an understanding of the basis of these changes, it relates to general development and changes to standardize the Dialog type windows to a common code base for uniform code and easier maintenance and also to allow porting to another operating system more easily.
