So, to download tick data, once I open an intraday chart, do I have to set bar period type, and if so, to what?

The instructions given in the link in post #2 is for how to export the data that is stored in the file for the symbol on the system. It is not about exporting the bar data that is in the chart. So you just need to have a chart for the symbol you want, the bar period does not matter. If you want to export the bar data, then refer to Step #7 in that section.
