Number Bars Spacing

Hi there,

I am looking to create a 'numbers bars' chart which has the candlestick running through the middle of the bid/ask numbers instead of surrounding the numbers.

Unfortunately when I try to do this, the candlestick is too wide and overlaps the numbers (even though I have reduced the width of the candlestick using the graphics options).

The only way this will be possible is if there is a way to increase the space between the bid/ask numbers in the numbers bars. I have currently selected the “Two Spaces” option under the “Numbers Separator Character”, but this does not give sufficient space down the middle of the bar.

Could you please help me achieve a chart?

Thanks,

Talai

This is not supported.

You instead need to use this Input to draw a candlestick around the Numbers Bar:

Another way to achieve this on a Numbers Bars chart is by using the Study/Price Overlay Study to overlay the main price graph on the chart. If your candles appear too wide, use Global Settings>Graphics Settings - Global>Other to reduce the candlestick width %. Here they’re at 8% and the numbers bars text is 10 point. Chart Settings chart draw type needs to be set to Candlestick.

Screen grab and study collection attached.

Hi,

I have done as suggested but the candles still slightly overlap the text.

Is there anyway the bid/ask numbers can be separated more than by just 'Two Spaces'? Will changing the font help?

Thanks

We can add a three or four space separator option for bid volume and ask volume in Numbers Bars.

No matter what I do I cannot get the box size smaller to make the numbers fit in around. Even by using the global setting and changing the value of the width, the bar thickness wont change a bit.

This simply means that your chart is not using the global settings and you can adjust the candlestick width using the chart's own graphics settings:
Chart>Graphics Settings - Chart>Other

We have gone ahead and added additional numbers separators. So there is now a 3 Spaces and 4 Spaces option for the Bid/Ask separator. This will be in the next release - 1757.

Once available, you can update to this release using these instructions:

Hi, It worked perfectly with your description and the new update from Sierra.

Nevertheless, when I save it as a Study template the overlay study refers always to the first instrument (saved) How can I set it so that I dont have to adapt the overlay every single time I apply it on another instrument?

thanks

Are you referring to a Study Collection? And what specific study are you using for the overlay? You should be using this particular study:
Overlay - Bar

You should be overlaying within the same chart. Not referencing another chart.

Yes, it is the overlay study you're referring to.

Well I set up the study template for 1 instruments and saved it as a study template. If i apply that same template onto another instrument, that the overlay won't load automatically the selected instrument but will have the same reference to the first chart as before.

Okay we understand the behavior. First of all, what was suggested by the user is not something that we would have suggested ourselves. You are going to have this problem. You will need to update the Input for the Overlay study which specifies the chart, to refer to the same chart, every time you apply this Study Collection to a different chart.
