Is there a way to color the number of trades study based on the cumulative bid/ask bars?

Yes, you would use the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition study:
Color Bar Based on Alert Condition

In particular, review the section on Coloring Subgraphs of Other Studies.

OK, I seem to have followed the directions but I'm unsure where I"m making a mistake.

I have the color study beneath the number of trades study, it's in chart region 2 (where the umber of trades is. Here's the formula in the alerts window =(BV>AV)

Output is based on input data and it's based on the Cumulative Delta Bars - Volume study.

What am I missing?

The first thing is that the formula you are using is referencing the bid volume and ask volume of the Main Price Graph. It is not checking the Cumulative Bid/Ask Bars, if that is what you want.

In order to use the Cumulative Bid/Ask Bars in the alert, you need to reference the Subgraphs of that particular study. Refer to this section of the documentation for how to reference the Subgraphs of another study:
Study/Chart Alerts And Scanning: Referencing Study Subgraphs

OK, this is exactly what I"m trying to accomplish with the number bars. I want them to be red if the bid volume is greater than the ask volume based on the cumulative delta chart - I still can't seem to figure this out.

What's happening now is, the number of trades is still green, but as I pull the main graph down, those are red as they enter the area 2.

I don't understand what the formula should be in the alerts to do this; but I do feel that I've setup everything else correctly.

Can you explain exactly what I need to color my number of trades chart as is pictured above? This is exactly what I'm looking for.

@John - SC,

I followed that study exactly and here's the results I'm having. Can you point out my error?

As you can see, it's coloring the volume bars red from the main price graph as you pull it down into the number of trades area - I can't get the color of the NumTrades area to change color even for an =1 condition.

I appreciate you pointing me to resources - I've read them multiple times and folowed the explicitly without the results they claim; at this point I'm trying random things and could use the support.

Thanks.

Since you are wanting to apply this to the Bars that are in the Number of Trades, you need to change the Draw Style of the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition Subgraph to Bar. In other words, it needs to be the same as the subgraph that it is trying to draw on.

Make sure that the Subgraph of the Color Bar Based on Alert Condition study uses the same Width of the study it is drawing on top of.

This is noted in Step 9 of the following documentation:
Color Bar Based on Alert Condition: Coloring Subgraphs of Other Studies

THANK YOU; that was the error - same bar style. I didn't realize that 'color bar' and 'bar' would produce different results.

Much appreciated.
