Hi,

I've been having this issue for a while now where if I have added a Study Collection shortcut to the Control Bar, if I try to change the Study Collection assigned to the button then it often hangs and I have to kill the Sierra process to get back up and running. It seems to happen on all the instances I have running and happens intermittently.

This is how I am able to recreate this issue. Make sure I have at least 3 chartbooks open with 3 or more charts in each and with studies loaded (can be anything). Right click Control Bar and customise it. Add a study collection shortcut to the control bar. Click customise and select a Study collection to assign to it... This part often works, but the issue comes when you want to change the study collection that is assigned to it by Right clicking the specific Study Collection button on the toolbar directly and selecting 'Configure Button'. Or the hang can also occur if you try to change the study collection via customise control bar options.

Unfortunately it's hit and miss for me, works about 50% of the time and hangs on the other attempts.

Thanks
S

OK we will try to reproduce this and see if it is an issue on our side.

Actually, we really need to understand this better. When you notice this condition, does Sierra Chart go into a frozen state and if you look at the Sierra Chart process in the Windows task manager, do you notice that the CPU usage is high?

When you notice the problem, press the Escape key on the keyboard and see if you can get out of this condition.

Hi,

No the process doesn't use any more CPU than normal. It stops me from being able to click anything on the main windows and will make the windows 'ding' sound if I try. I think if I have any charts 'detached' from the main window then I can still use these to save the chartbook (by clicking the detached chart and pressing ctrl+s) before I kill the sierra process. Pressing the escape button does nothing, no sound or anything.

Btw. I am running 6 monitors, 4 of which are 4k or greater. I doubt this is the issue, but it may be an unusual config

Thanks for your help on this,
S

We absolutely definitively cannot help with this beyond what is documented here:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.40 - Dialog Windows Do Not Display

We would expect the Escape key to get out of this condition so long as you are pressing that in relation to the window with the related control bar.
