thinkorswim recently added a timeout feature to their desktop application (requires user to re-enter password)...and now sierrachart shows disconnected...and cannot reconnect.

is there something sierrachart engineering can do to fix this?

No. We recommend using another trading platform service or trading service. You can find others here:

i found a workaround (sortof). After restarting thinkorswim and logging into to their desktop platform, and then after restarting SierraChart, the connection worked.

I understand why restarting TOS might have been necessary (it leaks memory and crashes from time to time)...I'm not sure why i had to restart SC tho.

This makes no sense. You would never have to restart Sierra Chart. That makes no sense whatsoever. It can only be coincidental. This we are 100% certain of.

its possible that the SC connection agent had stopped trying to reconnect after too many failed attempts...and the restart forced it to try again? regardless...i still place the "blame" on TOS not allowing the SC login until after TOS was restarted and relogged in from the desktop.

There is no "connection agent".

There are conditions where Sierra Chart would not try to reconnect to the data feed like when there is an invalid username or password error. From what we remember this was something requested by TD Ameritrade years ago.

But to simply try again select File >> Connect to Data Feed.

I'm running into the same issue where Sierra Chart is showing "Connecting..." and unable to authenticate with Thinkorswim. Is TOS no longer supported per the comment above?

i had the same issue this morning (could not connect to TD Ameritrade...was stuck on the yellow "connecting..." message)...and then SC just connected by itself after about 30 minutes of failed attempts.

i have no idea why...i tried killing and relogging into the ThinkorSwim platform but that didn't immediately help...but then another 10 minutes later, SC just went green connected.

i'm going to assume this was an error on the TD side (not surprising...the TOS desktop app crashes almost every day)

SC Engineering - since the TD Ameritrade data connection seems to break often (on the TD side, but still)...for accounts that use TD just for proof of having a trading account - and also purchase SC Realtime Live data feed, can there be a grace period of 24 hours where, if the connection attempt fails (after it previously worked) SC will wait 24 hours before killing the connection to the SC realtime data feed?

I'm assuming that the SC realtime data feed overrides the TD data feed for the actual trade / price data...and the connection to TD is just for proof of an active trading account.

Would this be an easy thing to do?
