All charts in existing chartbook suddenly stopped updating; new charts work ok?

Hi, new SC user. Loving the product so far but this is really bizarre...

I'm working from a known-good chartbook sent to me by a friend. All her charts worked great for the first week. These are all CL futures charts. I am subscribed to CQG data feed, and the status bar is green with good connection. But on Sunday's open, the charts did not update price on the open - stayed stuck on Friday's close. No new bar displayed, etc. If I shut down SC completely, then start it back up, the charts will update to the moment I restarted SC. But they don't update after that. It's almost as if some switch called "Keep the charts up to date with live data" got accidentally turned off somehow for every chart in the book.

Now for the really weird part. If I open a NEW chart starting with Find Symbol, it updates fine with live data. So we know the data feed is good. But the charts in the chartbook won't update.

Closing the chartbook and re-opening it (without shutting down SC) does nothing. The chart re-opens with stale data, and is not up to date. If I shut down SC completely, re-start, and then open the chartbook, it loads the data ONCE and the chart is up to date but it won't update after that.

Possibly related (?): There was a power outage here on Saturday, and this chartbook was open in SC at the time. The system crashed and was rebooted after power restored. I would hope SC is designed not to be vulnerable to data loss in such circumstances, but this could conceivably have contributed to the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Erik

Oh, forgot to mention... If I right-click on one of the chart and then click "Delete and Re-Load Data", it does the whole data download thing, but then re-displays the charts as they were previously, i.e. WITHOUT bringing them up to date. The only thing I've found that will get them up to date is to totally shut down and restart SC. Meanwhile, newly created charts are updating fine on the same symbol! Really weird...

Thanks,
Erik

Whatever the issue is, it will be one of the items described in help topic 3:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails3.html

This is not going to be a problem at all.

If you still need more help let us know. In general we have to validate the issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I guess I should have been clearer - the charts that won't update are historical charts, not intraday. The topic you pointed me to appears to be specific to intraday. I WILL WAIT TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU BEFORE INVESTING THE TIME NECESSARY TO CHECK ALL THOSE THINGS, since at first glance they appear only to be relevant to intraday charts.

A couple other things - the person who sent me the chartbook is still using it without any issue. She had no problem. So it feels something about my setup is broken. On speculation that the .CHT file might have become corrupt, I went back and re-loaded the original copy I first received, which worked fine for a week and which is still working for the person who sent it to me. Same result - doesn't work now on my system.

PLEASE ADVISE WHETHER I SHOULD STILL GO THRU TOPIC 3, which appears to only apply to intraday.

Thanks!
Erik

Hi Guys,

UPDATE HERE - DISREGARD PRIOR REPLY

Since my issue was not relevant to intraday charts, I opted to take a different approach than follow the Topic 3 checklist you mentioned.

I set up SC on a second computer, and then put the SierraChart/Data folder on a thumb drive. First I copied over just the offending chartbook, and after downloading all the requisite data, it worked fine on the 2nd computer.

Next I renamed SierraChart/Data on the 2nd computer to SierraChart/Data_original_backup, and then copied the entire original-computer Data folder to the new computer. As I predicted, the new computer now has the same symptoms as the first computer - it will display data only up to the moment when SC was last restarted, and it does not live-update after that.

So it seems clear - something is corrupt in my Data folder. I would just re-install SC on the original computer and start over, but that Data folder has .dll's for some custom indicators my friend sent me, so I'm not sure exactly what I have to preserve.

Does this ring any bells - is there anything I should try short of just a clean install and go back to my friend for help re-creating the desired Data folder?

Thanks in advance!

NEVER MIND GUYS - I FIGURED IT OUT

The .CHT itself was the culprit in the end. I had to revert to an old backup but have it working again

Thanks again for the help! Great product so far!

Here is the relevant documentation for Historical Daily charts not updating:
No Historical Chart or Blank Chart | Historical Chart Not Updating | Missing Historical Chart Data

. I would just re-install SC on the original computer and start over,
We never recommend doing this.
