Why such a hefty minimum? Is it a fix connection? So, as a UK customer of IG, I will need an account balance of £5000 to connect through SC? I don't understand, are they worried about something?

It is a FIX connection and not totally certain of the reason for the minimum but it does relate to it being FIX. We would expect the equivalent in pounds to be less.

It's purely selfish motivation :) I do think it's a real opportunity for SC to enhance its European profile and create new business. IG is a leader in its field and has thousands of customers but who are currently limited in their platform options.

It is going to happen because a lot of work has already been done with IG Markets integration. As usual, these things always end up being a lot more complicated than expected. Hopefully I am wrong but I think that all the UK spreadbetters are going to be disappointed. My guess is that this account and FIX connection will only be usable on a CFD account. To access your spreadbetting account you need to use the public REST API as I've previously requested. I am a great fan of SC, but I fear that this is SC going down a prefered technology route again rather than listening to customers and giving them the features that they regularly plead for on the support board.I think I can see a future SC post complaining that no one is using the IG connection after all the work they've done. |

I agree, would be a real pity if integration was just for CFD accounts. Most active traders are spread betting because of the tax free flexibility: fx, index and commodity trading. CFD's are mainly for UK, European and US stock investors (If I wanted to trade whole contracts why would I choose IG with a 1.8 pt spread on the Dow, for example? I'd trade directly with an FCM/broker). Therefore, less need for such a sophisticated front end platform like SC. Of course, a front end like SC connected through fix gives the spreadbetter an advantage, maybe IG don't want their punters to have this level of control? On the other hand, the combination would blow all other SB competition out of the water. And would attract Institutional cash, I'm sure. If their execution policy is truly open, neutral and objective, what have IG got to lose?

IG Markets support has been released. But we do not think you can use it unless IG Markets were to set up your account to connect to the FIX server. We also do not have access to the real-time FIX data feed to maintain historical data and provide the real-time data. We have asked IG Markets about this but so far no response.
